GAUGE … Each motif measures 3¼ inches, measuring across center (from tip of p-loop to tip of opposite p-loop). For a tablecloth about 60 x 80 inches, make 19 x 25 motifs.
FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 9, join with sl st. 1st rnd: (S c in ring, ch 18) 12 times. Join to 1st s c. Fasten off. 2nd rnd: Attach thread to 1st loop, make 2 s c in same loop, * ch 4, 2 s c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-4; join. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, s c in same place as sl st, s c in next s c, 6 s c in ch-4 loop, s c in next sc. * Ch 14, s c in 3rd ch from hook and in next ch, half d c in next 2 ch, d c in next 6 ch, half d c in next ch, s c in last ch, s c in next s c of previous rnd—a point made. (6 s c in ch-4 loop, s c in next 2 s c) twice; 6 s c in next ch-4 loop, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around, ending with 6 s c in last loop, sl st in 1st s c made.
4th rnd: Sl st in next 2 s c, s c in next 3 s c, * ch 1, skip 2 sts of next point, d c in next st, ch 2, skip 1 st, d c in next st. (Ch 2, skip 1 st, tr in next st) 3 times. (Ch 2, tr in tip of point) 5 times. Now work along other side of point as follows: (Ch 2, skip next st, tr in next st) 3 times. (Ch 2, skip next st, d c in next st) twice. Ch 1, skip 3 s c of previous rnd, s c in next 3 s c. Ch 16, d c in 7th ch from hook, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) twice. (Ch 1, skip 1 ch, d tr in next ch) twice. Ch 1, skip 12 s c of previous rnd, s c in next 3 s c. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-1 to 1st s c of rnd.
5th rnd: Sl st in next s c, * s c in 1st sp of next point, s c in next d c, 2 s c in next sp, s c in next d c, 2 half d c in next sp, half d c in tr. (2 d c in next sp, d c in next tr) 5 times; 4 d c in same place as last d c; (2 d c in next sp, d c in next tr) 4 times; 2 d c in next sp. Half d c in tr, 2 half d c in next sp, s c in next d c, 2 s c in next sp, s c in next d c, s c in next sp. Skip 1 s c of 3-s c group, sl st in next s c—thus completing a d c-loop. (S c in next sp, s c at base of next d tr) twice; s c in sp, then make a p—to make a p, ch 3, sl st in last s c made. S c at base of next tr, s c in sp, s c at base of next tr, s c in sp, p, s c in d c, s c in sp, p, 4 s c in same sp, p, s c in same sp. S c in d c, s c in sp, p, s c in tr, s c in sp, s c in tr, s c in sp, p, s c in d tr, s c in sp, s c in d tr, s c in sp, skip 1 s c of next 3-s c group, sl st in next s c—thus completing a p-loop. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. This completes one motif.
SECOND MOTIF … Work exactly as for first motif. Place these 2 motifs side by side, wrong side up, having corresponding points meet. With needle and thread, sew together the p-loops at tip with neat over-and-over stitches. Then sew together 5 stitches of adjacent d c-loops, starting at center d c at tip of d c-loops and working toward the p-loop already joined.
Make the necessary number of motifs and join in same way. Block cloth to measurements given.
