Rick Rack Purse Pattern #239

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 10, White, 2 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6. Rick rack braid, any color, width 5. Six-inch Talon slide fastener and 1 button.

To begin, cut 8 pieces of braid 9½ inches long, and 4 pieces 7½ inches long. Attach thread at point at one end of 9½ inch piece. 1st row: * Ch 2, 1 d c between points, ch 2, 1 s c in next point. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each st across. Fasten off. On other side of braid work same as 1st row and fasten off. Work 6 more of the 9½ inch pieces the same, and the other strip should be worked with the 1st and 2nd rows on each side. Whip strips together, lengthwise, with a d c-row at each side.

Flap: Work 3 of the 7½ inch pieces the same way, and on the other piece work the 1st and 2nd rows on one side only. Whip together as before, with the last piece made used as the lower edge of the flap.

For buttonhole, take a piece of braid with 14 points. Attach thread to 1st point, * ch 2, s c in next point, repeat from * and join piece in ring. Turn and work 2 s c over each ch-2. Fasten off and attach thread to outside point. * Ch 2, d c between points, ch 2, s c in point. Repeat from * around. Turn and make s c in each st. Attach at center of flap. Fold bag envelope style and whip across ends. Line bag, sew in slide fastener. Cover a button with s c and sew on to correspond to buttonhole.
