"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN
1 - 70 yd. skein each White, Yellow, Pink and Moss will make 1 large and 3 small mats
Plastic Crochet Hook Size J OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 3 s c = 1 inch

SMALL MAT: With White ch 4, join to form a ring, work 8 s c in ring. Do not join rounds. Place a marker at beg of each round. 2nd ROUND: 2 s c in each s c. 3rd ROUND: Work in s c working 2 s c in every other s c. 4th ROUND: Inc in every 3rd st. 5th ROUND: Pick up and work over Yellow, * work 1 s c in each of next 2 sts, insert hook in next st, pull through, drop White, pick up Yellow and complete s c with Yellow, work 4 d c in next s c, Y O, insert hook in same space, pick up and work off 2 loops, drop Yellow, pick up White and complete d c, repeat from * all around, join in 1st s c, cut both colors. 6th ROUND: Attach Pink in any 1st d c, s c in same space, * d c in next d c, 3 d c in center d c, d c in next d c, s c in next d c, skip 3 s c, s c in next d c, repeat from * ending last half of last s c with Moss, cut Pink, join in 1st s c. 7th ROUND: Ch 1, s c in same st, work 1 s c in each st working 3 s c in each center d c of each scallop, do not join. 8th ROUND: Working in back loop of sts only work 1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center st of each scallop, join in 1st s c, cut yarn. EMBROIDERY: With Yellow embroider cen­ter in lazy daisy st working sts from center to base of center st of 3 s c group of 5th round.

LARGE MAT: Work 1st 4 rounds same as small mat. 5th ROUND: Inc in every 4th st. 6th ROUND: Inc in every 5th st. 7th ROUND: Inc in every 6th st. 8th ROUND: Inc in every 7th st. 9th ROUND: With Yellow work in same manner as 5th round of small mat but work 1 s c in each of 7 sts between scallops. 10th ROUND: Attach Pink in 1st d c, ch 3, * work 2 d c in each d c working 3 d c in center d c, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c, skip next 3 s c, repeat from * all around, join in 1st d c. 11th and 12th ROUNDS: Same as 7th and 8th rounds of small mat, join, cut yarn. Embroider in same manner as small mat, but work lazy daisy sts into base of s c of 6th round.
