MATERIALS:
Use white, ecru or colors.
FIRST MOTIF … Ch 6, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Working over a cord, or over 4 strands of same thread, make 11 s c in ring. 2nd to 5th rnds incl: Do not join rnds but, working over cord as before, make s c in each s c around, increasing 7 s c in each rnd—to inc., make 2 s c in 1 sc (39 s c on 5th rnd). Sl st in next st. Fasten off. 6th rnd: Attach 2nd color. * Ch 7, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from * 11 more times, ch 3, tr in sl st (13 loops). 7th rnd: * Ch 5, s c in 3rd ch from hook (p), ch 1, p, ch 2, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with s c in tr of previous row. Fasten off.
SECOND MOTIF … Work 1st 6 rnds as for 1st motif. 7th rnd: Ch 2, p, s c between p’s of any loop on 1st motif, p, ch 2, s c in next loop on motif in work, ch 2, p, s c between p’s of next loop on 1st motif, p, ch 2, s c in next loop on motif in work, ch 2, p, ch 1, p, ch 2, s c in next loop on motif in work and complete as for 1st motif.
Make necessary number of motifs for desired length, joining as 2nd was joined to 1st, leaving 5 free loops on one side of joining (scalloped edge) and 4 loops on the opposite side. Using 2nd color, work heading over the latter side as follows:
1st row: Attach thread between p’s of 4th loop preceding 1st joining; ch 10 (to count as tr and ch-7), s c between p's of next loop, * ch 5, s c between p’s of next loop, ch 7, (tr between p’s of next free loop) twice, ch 7, s c between p’s of next loop. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in 4th loop following last joining. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: * Skip 2 sts, d c in next st, ch 2. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.
