Star Popcorn Bedspread Pattern
Make separate sections at your leisure and join them into a bedspread of any desired size.
Approximate Size 85 inches by 103 inches.

To make a full size double bedspread use: 36 skeins of Ivory or White Lorraine Boilproof Crochet and Knitting Cotton, Article 50, or 54 skeins of any desired color. 1 Steel Crochet Hook, Standard Size 5.
Gauge: 8 stitches—1 inch. 4 rows—1 inch.
This bedspread is made up of squares, sewn together. Each square should measure about 14½ inches.
Squares—Ch 8, join with a slip st into a ring. 1st round: ch 6, 3 d c in ring, ch 3, 3 d c in ring, ch 3, 3 d c in ring, ch 3, 2 d c in ring, join with a slip st in 3rd st of chain at beginning of round, 1 s c in space made by same chain. 2nd round: ch 6, 2 d c in same space as the s c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, * 2 d c in next space, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c ; repeat from * twice, then 1 d c in same space as the s c at beginning of round, 1 slip st in 3rd st of ch 6, and 1 s c in space made by same chain. 3rd round: ch 6, 2 d c in same space as the s c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 d c, then make a "popcorn" st, as follows: 5 d c in next d c, drop loop from hook, insert this in top of first d c and draw the dropped loop through, tighten loop; This completes the square.
Make 35 squares and sew them together, 7 in length and 5 in width, working from wrong side and taking up top threads only of edge sts; be careful to have corners meet exactly; use the same thread as for crocheting.
Work 2 rows of meshes around the entire spread, as follows: 1 s c in space just before a corner, ch 5, 1 s c in corner space, ch 5, 1 s c in next space, * ch 5, skip 1 space, 1 s c in next space; repeat from * to next corner; continue in this way on remaining 3 sides, working all corners the same as first. 2nd row: 1 s c in first space, * ch 5, 1 s c in next space, repeat from * around.
Fringe—Wind thread around an 8-inch cardboard; cut at one end. Tie 2 fringes of 5 strands each, in each space; tie 2 and 2 fringes together about ½ inch below first knots; knot a 3rd time ¾ of an inch below last knot, tying half the number of strands of one knot with half the strands of next knot.
