Materials: Either De Luxe, Gem, or Star Crochet Cotton is applicable for this effective spread, and with the thread chosen, use a No. 5 steel crochet hook.

1st row: Ch 6, j for r, ch 7, (1 d tr in r, ch 2) 11 times, j in 4th st of ch-7. (12 spokes.)
2nd row: Ch 4, * (2 d tr in next sp, 1 d tr in next d tr) twice, 2 d tr in next sp, ch 4, 1 d tr in next d tr. Repeat from * around, j with sl st to 4th st of ch-4.
3rd row: Ch 7, * (sk 1 d tr, 1 d tr in next d tr, ch 3) 3 times, 1 d tr in center of next sp, ch 3, 1 d tr in next d tr, ch 3. Repeat from * around, j with sl st in 4th st of ch-7.
4th row: (Ch 12, sk 2 d tr, sl st in next d tr) 8 times.
5th row: (6 s sts, ch 5, 6 s sts) over each loop around. Join with sl st in 1st s st.
6th row: Sl st to center of p, (ch 18, sl st in center of next p) 8 times.
7th row: (9 s sts, ch 5, 9 s sts) over each loop around. Join with sl st in 1st s st.
8th row: Ch 12, * (3 d tr, ch 2, 3 d tr) over ch-5 p, ch 8, sk 9 s sts of last row, 1 d tr in next d tr, ch 8. Repeat from * around, j with sl st in 4th st of ch-12.
9th row: Sl st back 3 sts on ch of last row, ch 7, sk 2 sts on next ch, 1 d tr in next st, * ch 6, (4 d tr, ch 2, 4 d tr) over ch-2 of last row, ch 6, 1 d tr in 6th st of next ch (last row), ch 3, 1 d tr in 3rd st of next ch. Repeat from * around, j with sl st in 4th st of ch-7.
10th row: Sl st forward 2 sts, ch 13, * (5 d tr, ch 2, 5 d tr) over ch-2, ch 9, 1 d tr in center of next small sp, ch 9. Repeat from * around, j with sl st in 4th st of ch-13.
11th row: Ch 1, 1 s st in each st around. Join with sl st.

SMALL MEDALLION

Make 1st 2 rows of large medallion.

3rd row: * Ch 12, sk 7 d tr, sl st in next d tr, ch 4, sl st in next d tr. Repeat from * around, j with sl st.
4th row: Ch 1, * 1 s st in each next 6 sts, ch 5, 1 s st in each next 6 sts, 4 s sts over ch-4 of both 2nd and 3rd rows. Repeat from * around, j with sl st.

Make the required number of medallions. Sew a large medallion to every 2nd side of a large medallion. Sew the small medallions to the other 4 sides, j the p of small medallion to the center of the sides of the large medallions.

When the cloth is completed j cotton to a corner, ch 5, * sk 2 sts, 1 tr in next st, ch 2. Repeat from * around.

FOR FRINGE

Cut cotton for fringe in 16-inch lengths. Take 10 of these and get the ends even and fold in center. Slip this fold through an open sp and draw the 2 groups of ends through this fold and pull tightly. Repeat in every 2nd sp. Take half of 1st group and half of 2nd group and loop in a knot 1-2 inch below 1st knot of fringe. Repeat around.

This spread may be used with or without the fringe.
