MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 30:
Small Ball:
J. & P. Coats—5 balls of White or Ecru, or 6 balls of any color,
or
Clark's O.N.T.—8 balls of White, Ecru or any color.
Big Ball:
J. & P. Coats—3 balls of White or Ecru.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 or 11.

GAUGE: 5 sps make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Chair Back—13½ x 17 inches.
Armpieces—8 x 12 inches.

CHAIR BACK … Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain 20 inches long (about 16 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until there are 253 dc, counting turning chain as 1 dc. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in 3 dc (bl over bl made), * ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc (sp over bl). Repeat from * until there are 82 sps in all; dc in next 2 dc, dc in top st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Make 1 bl, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 16 times (16 sps over 16 sps made); (2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc) 4 times (4 bls over 4 sps made); 11 sps, 4 bls, 12 sps, 4 bls, 11 sps, 4 bls, 16 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn. Starting with 4th row, follow chart until 58th row is completed. Do not ch to turn. 59th row: Sl st in 3 dc, ch 3, make 10 bls, 14 sps, 4 bls, 9 sps, 2 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 10 sps, 4 bls, 14 sps, 10 bls. Turn. 60th row: Sl st across 24 dc, ch 3, make 3 bls, 12 sps, 4 bls, 11 sps, 6 bls, 11 sps, 4 bls, 12 sps, 3 bls. Turn. Starting with 61st row, follow chart to end. Fasten off.

ARM PIECES … Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain 10 inches long. 1st row: Work as for 1st row of Chair Back until there are 127 dc, counting turning chain as 1 dc. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. Starting with 2nd row, follow chart to end. Fasten off.
