Clark's O.N.T.—32 balls of White or Ecru,
or
J. & P. Coats—32 balls of White or Ecru, or 43 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 11.

GAUGE: 4 sps make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch. Completed tablecloth measures 65 x 93 inches.

Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain 2 yards long (16 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Tr in 5th ch from hook and in next 11 ch (13 tr counting the turning ch as 1 tr), * ch 3, skip 3 ch, tr in next ch (sp made). Repeat from * across, until there are 255 sps in all. Mark every 25th sp with a safety pin as an aid in counting. Work tr in next 12 ch, then cut off remaining chain. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Tr in next 12 tr (3 bls made). Ch 3, tr in next tr (sp made over sp); 3 tr in next sp, tr in next tr (bl made over sp); ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch, ch 1, tr in next tr (shadow sp made over sp). Ch 3, tr in next tr (another sp made). Make 4 more sps, 3 tr in next sp, tr in next tr (another bl made); 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 5 sps, then ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch, ch 1, tr in next tr (another shadow sp made). Make * 1 bl, 1 shadow sp, 5 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 5 sps, 1 shadow sp. Repeat from * 7 more times. Make 1 bl, 1 sp, tr in next 11 tr, tr in top of turning ch. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: 3 bls, 1 sp, then (ch 1, skip 1 tr, tr in next tr) twice (shadow sp made over bl), (ch 1, tr in next tr) twice (shadow sp made over shadow sp); make 4 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps; tr in next 4 tr (bl made over bl); 2 sps, 1 bl. Make * 1 sp, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 3 shadow sps, 4 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl. Repeat from * 3 more times. Make 1 sp and mark this sp with colored thread for center of cloth. Equivalent sp is marked with an "X" on chart. Then make ** 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 3 shadow sps, 4 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp. Repeat from ** 3 more times; make 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 2 shadow sps, 1 sp, 3 bls. Ch 4, turn. Now follow chart, starting with the 4th row from bottom. The chart shows of design. To make 2nd half of each row, repeat the 1st half, starting from center and working back—but do not repeat the exact center mesh. Follow chart to top; then reverse design by working back to 1st row—but do not repeat top row of chart. Next row: Tr in each tr and 3 tr in each sp across. Ch 4, turn. Following row: Tr in each tr, ch 4, turn. Repeat the last row once more. Fasten off. Attach thread at one end of starting ch and work 3 rows of tr at other end of cloth to correspond. Fasten off. Block to measure 65 x 93 inches.
