MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 50,
Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—16 balls of While or Ecru, or 22 balls of any color,
or
J. & P. Coats—11 balls of White or Ecru, or 16 balls of any color.
Big Ball:
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats—6 balls of White or Ecru.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 12.

This amount of materials is sufficient for a set consisting of a centerpiece about 17 inches in diameter; 4 place doilies about 12 inches in diameter; 4 bread and butter plate doilies about 7½ inches in diameter; and 4 glass doilies about 5 inches in diameter.

GAUGE: 6 sps or bls make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

CENTERPIECE … Starting at bottom of chart, ch 38 (17 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook (sp made), * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch (another sp made). Repeat from * across (11 sps in all). Ch 13, turn. 2nd row: D c in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch, ch 2, d c in last d c of previous row (3 sps increased at beginning of row). Ch 2, d c in next d c (sp made over sp). Make sp over next 9 sps, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch. To increase 3 sps at end of row, ch 5, d c in same place as last d c, (ch 5, turn, d c in 3rd st of previous ch-5) twice; turn, sl st to 3rd st of last ch-5. Ch 28, turn. 3rd row: Inc. 8 sps over the ch-28, work sps over 17 sps, inc. 8 sps at end of row as before. Ch 16, turn. 4th row: Inc. 4 sps over the ch-16, work sps over 33 sps, inc. 4 sps at end of row. Ch 13, turn. 5th row: Inc. 3 sps over the ch-13, work sps over 41 sps, inc. 3 sps at end of row. Ch 13, turn. 6th row: Inc. 3 sps, work sps over 9 sps, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c (bl made over sp). Make 27 sps, 1 bl, 9 sps; inc. 3 sps. Ch 10, turn. 7th row: Inc. 2 sps, work 5 more sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 2 bls, then make d c in next 3 d c, (bl made over bl). Make 27 sps, 3 bls, 4 sps, 1 bl, 5 sps; inc. 2 sps. Ch 7, turn. 8th row: D c in last d c (1 sp increased), make 7 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 4 bls, 27 sps, 4 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 7 sps, ch 5, d c in same place as last d c (1 sp increased), turn; sl st to 3rd st of ch-5. Ch 7, turn. Starting with 9th row, follow chart until 56th row is completed (when there are no increases, ch 5 to turn). Do not chain at end of 56th row. Turn. 57th row: Sl st across 1st sp and in next d c, ch 5, d c in next d c and follow chart across to within last sp of previous row (1 sp decreased at each end). Ch 5, turn and follow chart to top. Do not break off, but work s c all around, keeping work flat. Fasten off.

PLACE DOILIES (Make 4) … Ch 53 and follow chart for 1st row (16 sps). Ch 16, turn. Follow chart to top. Work s c around and fasten off.

BREAD and BUTTER PLATE DOILIES (Make 4) … Ch 44 and follow chart for 1st row (13 sps). Ch 13, turn. Follow chart to top. Work s c around and fasten off.

GLASS DOILIES (Make 4) … Ch 20, and follow chart for 1st row (5 sps). Ch 13, turn. Follow chart to top. Work s c around and fasten off.

Block all pieces to measurements given.
