Here is a brighter star than ever from our glistening galaxy. The striking motifs are accented by the openwork joinings.

CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BIG BALL BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 30,
Clark's O.N.T.—24 balls of White or Ecru,
or
J. & P. Coats—24 balls of White or Ecru, or 32 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 9 or 10.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 5½ inches from point to point across center before blocking. For a tablecloth 65 x 90 inches make 188 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 10, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 7, (d c in ring, ch 4) 6 times. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-7. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, (5 d c in sp, d c in next d c) 6 times, 5 d c in next sp; join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, d c in same place as sl st, * d c in next 5 d c, 2 d c in next d c, ch 5, 2 d c in next d c. Repeat from * around ending with ch 5; join. 4th rnd: Sl st in next d c, ch 3, d c in next 7 d c, * ch 5, s c in next ch-5 loop, ch 5, skip 1 d c, d c in next 8 d c. Repeat from * around; join. 5th rnd: Sl st in next d c, ch 3, d c in next 5 d c, * (ch 5, s c in next loop) twice; ch 5, skip 1 d c, make d c in next 6 d c. SECOND MOTIF … Work first 15 rnds of First Motif. 16th rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 8, s c in 5th ch from hook—thus making a picot. Ch 2, sl st in corresponding p of First Motif, ch 2, s c in 1st ch of ch-2 on motif in work. Make another p, s c in same ch as s c of first p was made, d c in same place as 1st sl st, ch 4, s c in next s c, ch 4, d c in next ch-2 sp. Make a p, then join next p to next p of First Motif, as before. Continue in this manner until 4 p's are joined. Complete rnd as for First Motif. Break off. Make 188 motifs, joining all adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First, following diagram. Block to measurements given.
