MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BIG BALL BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 20 or 30

Size 20:
Clark's O.N.T.—18 balls of White or Ecru,
OR
J. & P. Coats—18 balls of White or Ecru, or 22 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 9 or 10.

GAUGE: Each motif measures about 5¼ inches in diameter after blocking. For a tablecloth about 53 x 73 inches, make 10 x 14 motifs.

Size 30:
Clark's O.N.T.—21 balls of White or Ecru.
OR
J. & P. Coats—21 balls of White or Ecru, or 28 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 or 11.

GAUGE: Each motif measures about 4¼ inches in diameter after blocking. For a tablecloth about 55 x 72 inches, make 13 x 17 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 12. Join with sl st to form a ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4 (to count as 1 tr), 35 tr in ring. Join with sl st to 4th st of ch-4 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, * tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr, ch 1, 2 tr in next tr. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-1 with sl st in 4th st of ch-4 (12 tr-groups). 3rd rnd: Ch 4, tr in next 4 tr, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, thread over and draw through all loops at once, ch 1 to fasten (a cluster made). * Ch 5, tr in next 5 tr, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr and finish cluster. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 to tip of 1st cluster (12 clusters). 4th rnd: Ch 6, tr in same place as sl st, * ch 3, skip 2 ch, tr in next ch, ch 3; in tip of next cluster make tr, ch 2 and tr. Repeat from * around. Join to 4th st of ch-6. 5th rnd: Ch 7, * tr in next tr, ch 5, s c in 4th ch from hook (a picot made), tr in next tr, ch 1, p, tr in next tr, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join to 4th st of ch-7. 6th rnd: Ch 8, * tr in next tr, (ch 1, p, tr in next tr) twice; ch 4. Repeat from * around. Join to 4th st of ch-8. 7th rnd: Ch 7, * in next ch-4 sp make 7 tr, leaving on hook the last loop of each tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (a cluster made). P in tip of cluster, ch 3, tr in next tr, (p, tr in next tr) twice; ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work first 6 rnds as for First Motif. 7th rnd: Ch 8, * in next ch-5 sp make a 7 tr-cluster, ch 3, s c in corresponding p at top of a cluster on First Motif, ch 2, s c in 2nd ch from the s c joining motifs, ch 3, tr in next tr, (p, tr in next tr) twice; ch 3. Repeat from * once more; then finish rnd same as 7th rnd of First Motif. Make necessary number of motifs, joining motifs at cluster-p's, having 1 cluster-p free between joinings.

FILL-IN LACE … Ch 14, join with sl st to form ring. * 2 s c in ring, ch 12, s c in sp along side of free cluster-p on motif, sl st in each ch back to ring, 2 s c in ring, ch 12, s c in sp on other side of same cluster-p on motif, sl st in each ch back to ring, 2 s c in ring, ch 18, skip 2 p's on motif, s c in next sp on motif, sl st in each ch back to ring, 2 s c in ring, ch 18, s c in free sp after joining on next motif, sl st in each ch back to ring. Repeat from * around (16 spokes). Fasten off. Fill in all sps between joinings in same way.
