Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball each of 3 colors designated as A - B and C.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3.

Use thread double throughout.

Beginning at tip, with color C ch 10, turn. 1st rnd: S c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in each of next 6 ch, 10 s c in last ch. Then make 2 s c in 10th s c from hook, having point forward, towards you. Then make 2 s c in each s c around, until 21 s c are made in the rnd. 2nd rnd: S c in each s c. 3rd rnd: * S c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c (this is an increase). Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: S c in each s c. 5th rnd: * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 2 s c, repeat from * around. 6th rnd: S c in each s c. 7th rnd: * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 3 s c. Repeat from * around. 8th rnd: S c in each s c. Drop color C to back of work. 9th rnd: Attach color A and work s c in each s c. Drop color A. 10th rnd: Attach color B and work s c in each of next 2 s c, * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 4 s c. Repeat from * around. 11th rnd: S c in each s c. 12th rnd: S c in each of next 3 s c, * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 7 s c. Repeat from * around. Drop color B. 13th rnd: Attach color A and work s c in each s c. Drop color A. 14th rnd: Pick up color C, and work s c in next s c, * 2 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 5 s c. Repeat from * around. 15th rnd: S c in each s c. Drop color C. 16th rnd: Pick up color A and work same as 12th rnd. Drop color A. 17th rnd: With color B, work s c in each s c. 18th rnd: Same as 12th rnd. Drop color B. 19th and subsequent rnds: With color A, make s c in each s c until work measures 6½ inches from tip to edge of work (in the meantime, if a larger headsize is desired, increase a few sts.). Then work a rnd of s c inserting hook at base of s c's of previous rnd. Break off.
