Materials:
HIAWATHA Straw-Glo Art. 61, 3 tubes or Belastraw Art. 35, 2 tubes Main Color (M) and
HIAWATHA Metallic Corde Art. 64, 1 tube for Trimming (T)
HIAWATHA Button-on Bag Base Art. 6618
Steel crochet hook No. 0

Gauge: 5 sc = 1"

Before starting, roll part of T off tube, into a ball.

BAND—With M ch 96, to measure 19". Join with sl st in 1st ch, careful not to twist. Rnd 1—Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each ch around. Mark beg of rnds. Rnd 2—Sc in each sc. Rnd 3—* Ch 4, (buttonhole), skip 4 sc, sc in each of next 12 sc. Repeat from * around (6 buttonholes). Rnd 4—* Work 4 sc over buttonhole, sc in each of next 12 sc. Repeat from * around. Rnds 5 and 6—Repeat rnd 2. Sl st in next st, ch 1.

BODYRnd 1—Draw up loop on hook to measure ½", (thread over, draw up ½" loop in same place as sl st) twice; over and through all 5 loops on hook—clus­ter made—* ch 2, skip 1 sc, thread over, draw up ½" loop in next sc, over, draw up another loop in same place, over and through all 5 loops on hook—another cluster made. Repeat from * around, ending ch 2, sl st in top of 1st cluster (48 clusters). Rnd 2—Sl st in next space, ch 1, draw up loop on hook to measure ½", cluster in same space, * ch 2, cluster in next space. Repeat from * around. Join and end off. Attach double strand of T. Rnd 3—Repeat rnd 2. End off T, attach M. Repeating rnd 2, work 4 rnds M, 1 rnd T. With M work to 5½" from Band. End off. BeadingRnd 1—Attach double strand of T in space, ch 1. Draw­ing up loops to measure 1" work cluster in same space, * ch 5, skip 1 space, make 1" cluster in next space. Repeat from * around. Join. Rnd 2—5 sc in each space around. Sl st in 1st sc. End off.

DRAWSTRINGS—(make 2)—With M ch 24". Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, continuing around other side work sl st in each ch. End off, leaving 8" end.

Finishing—With M work 1 rnd sc at bot­tom of Band, to fit bag base. Join and end off. Button bag to base. Run both draw­strings through beading. Sew ends of each drawstring together, careful not to twist. Knot strings at opposite sides of bag.
