Gauge: 11 sc = 2"; 5 rows = 1"
Starting at center with L, ch 4, sl st in 1st ch, forming a ring. Rnd 1—12 sc in ring. Drop L loop, attach D in 1st sc of rnd 1. Hereafter work in back loop only of each sc on every rnd. Rnd 2—With D make sc in same place as joining, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (18 sts). Drop D loop, pick up L loop. Rnd 3—Through D rnd work: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around (24 sts). Drop L loop, pick up D loop. Rnd 4—Through L rnd work * sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (6 incs). Continue working spiral, inc 6 sc evenly on each rnd (not directly over incs of previous rnd) until piece is 9" from beg, ending with D rnd. Sl st in last st. End off D. With L work 1 rnd even, ending 1 st beyond end of D rnd. Sl st in next st. Beading—Rnd 1—With L sc in same place as sl st, sc in next sc, * ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 with sl st in 1st sc. End off L. Rnd 2—Attach D in space, sc in space, * sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next space. Repeat from * around. Join and end off.
Finishing—Holding rods of bag frame securely, unscrew ends, thus releasing rods. Fold bag in half and mark off 3" at each end for gussets. Run one rod in and out through spaces of one side of bag, remount rod on frame. Skip next 3" for gusset, run 2nd rod through spaces of other side and remount. Adjust fullness and fold gussets to inside.
HAT
Materials:
HIAWATHA Belastraw Art. 35, 1 tube Dark (D) and 2 tubes Light (L)
1½ yds. velvet ribbon wide
Steel crochet hook No. 1
Gauge: 11 sc = 2"; 5 rows = 1"
CROWN—Same as Bag until there are 108 sts. Continue spiral without inc until 5½" from beg, ending with L rnd. Sl st in last st. With D work 1 rnd hdc ending 1 st beyond end of L rnd. Sc in next st, sl st in next st.
BRIM—Rnd 1—Through front loops with D work * sc in next st, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around (162 sts). Drop D loop, join L in 1st st of previous rnd. Through back loops only ** continuing spiral, work 1" even, ending with L rnd. Next rnd—Inc 20 sc evenly around. Repeat from ** once more then work even until Brim is 2½” wide, ending with D rnd. Sl st in last st. End off D. With L work 1 rnd, ending 1 st beyond end of D rnd. Sl st in next st. End off.
FACING—Rnd 1—Working in free loop of hdc rnd, from right side, with L repeat rnd 1 of Brim. With L, work sc through both loops inc same as Brim (be sure both pieces have same number of sts).
Finishing—With double D, from right side work sc through both loops of Brim and Facing, thus joining. End off. Attach ribbon, with bow at center back.
