Materials:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 9 balls of Spanish Red
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6
46 inches of millinery wire
½ yard of lining material or felt
1½ yards of ribbon

Use 4 threads throughout.

HAT

Crown ... Starting at center, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 12 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around. 4th rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (48 sc). 5th, 6th and 7th rnds: Sc in each sc around.

Cut a piece of wire 17 inches long. Overlap edges of wire to form a circle 5 inches in diameter and tie ends securely.

8th rnd: Holding wire at top of last rnd and work­ing over it in order to conceal it, make sc in each sc around. 9th rnd: Still working over wire, make sc be­tween each sc around. 10th to 15th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 16th rnd: * Sc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc. Repeat from * around.

Brim ... 17th rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sp. Repeat from * around (72 sc). 18th to 22nd rnds incl: Sc in each sc around.

Overlap edges of wire to form a circle measuring 8½ inches in diameter and tie ends securely.

23rd rnd: Holding wire at top of last rnd and work­ing over it in order to conceal it, make sc in each sc around. 24th rnd: Still working over wire, make sc between each sc around. Sl st in 1st sc. Break off.

Back Piece ... Starting at inner edge, ch 22. Join. 1st rnd: Sc in each ch around. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd to 6th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around, sl st in last sc. Break off. Sew Back Piece to back of Hat.

Cord... Ch 6. Join. 1st rnd: Sc in each ch around. 2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around. Repeat the 2nd rnd until piece measures 54 inches in all. Break off.

Double the Cord in half. Twist the 2 ends of Cord around each other. Tack Cord to edge of Brim as illus­trated. Cut a piece of ribbon 9 inches long and tie in a bow. Sew to center back of Brim.

BAG

Starting at side edge, ch 71. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 13 inches in all. Do not break off. Fold work in half lengthwise and, working through both thicknesses along side edge, make sc in each sc across, thus joining side. Break off. Join opposite side in a similar manner.

Cord (Make 2) ... Work as for Cord on Hat until piece measures 32 inches. Break off. Double each Cord in half and draw one Cord through fold of other Cord. Twist the ends of the last 9 inches of each Cord to­gether and sew the twisted part along each side of Bag.

Ring (Make 4) ... Wind thread twice around 2 fin­gers. Make 20 sc over this Ring. Sl st in 1st sc. Break off. Sew a Ring 4 inches in on each side.

Cut out lining; sew in place. Cut ribbon in half; draw a piece through each set of Rings. Tie in a bow.
