GAUGE: 7 puff sts make 2 inches; 5 puff st rows and 5 sc rows make 2 inches.

Starting at narrow edge, make a chain 30 inches long. 1st row: Thread over, insert hook in 4th ch from hook, draw loop through, (thread over, insert hook in same ch, draw loop through) twice: thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (puff st made), * skip 1 ch, puff st in next ch. Repeat from * across until row measures 22 inches, dc in next ch. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first dc and in each puff st across, sc in 3rd st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first sp, * puff st in sp between next 2 puff sts on previous puff st row, ch 1. Repeat from * across, end­ing with dc in sp between last puff st and last dc. Ch 1, turn (1 less puff st than previous row). 4th row: Repeat 2nd row. 5th row: Puff st in first sp, * ch 1, puff st in next sp. Repeat from * across, ending with puff st in last sp, ch 1, dc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows incl until piece measures 34 inches, end­ing with the 5th row.

BORDER ... 1st rnd: Sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. 2nd to 7th rnds incl: Sc in each sc, making 3 sc in center sc at each corner. Join. Break off at end of 7th rnd. Block to measurements.
