COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. "SPEED-CRO-SHEEN" MER­CERIZED COTTON, Art. C.44: 1 ball each of No. 126 Spanish Red and No. 49-A Killarney.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero). A bone ring ... A piece of green felt.

GAUGE: 11 sts make 2 inches; 9 rows make 2 inches.

FLOWER POT ... Starting at lower edge with Spanish Red, ch 17. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * half dc in next ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across, ending with half dc in last ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first half dc, * half dc in next sc, sc in next half dc. Repeat from * across, ending with half dc in last sc. The 2nd row establishes the pattern. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Make half dc and sc in first st (1 st increased), * half dc in next sc, sc in next half dc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc and half dc in last half dc (another st increased). Ch 1, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Work in pattern without increasing. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd, 4th and 5th rows until there are 28 sts on row. Break off.

RIM ... Starting at lower edge with Spanish Red, ch 29. Work in pattern as for Flower Pot without increasing until 4 rows have been completed. Break off. Working along starting chain, attach Spanish Red to first ch, sl st in each ch across. Break off.

Place lower edge of Rim along the last row of Flower Pot and sew neatly in place. Make another piece the same way.

LEAF (Make 6) ... Starting at center with Killarney, ch 19. 1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, half dc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 3 ch, dc in next 2 ch, half dc in next 2 ch, sc in next 4 ch, 3 sc in next ch (tip): working along opposite side of starting chain, sc in next 4 ch, half dc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 3 ch, dc in next 2 ch, half dc in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in next st, sc in each st to tip of leaf, sc in next st, ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in same st where last sc was made, sc in each remaining st across. Break off.

Overlap leaves as illustrated, having the tips branch out. Sew leaves together. Line back of leaves with felt. Place leaves between Flower Pot pieces and sew pieces together. With Killarney, sc closely around bone ring. Sew ring in place behind leaves.
