Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD "AUNT LYDIA'S"
HEAVY RUG YARN
3—70 yd. skeins Lilac
2—70 yd. skeins each Peacock and Chartreuse
Plastic Crochet Hook Size J OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
½ yd. Clear Plastic
12 inch length of Black Velcro

GAUGE: 3 s c = 1 inch

BAG: With Lilac ch 2, 3 s c in 2nd st from hook, ch 2 to turn all rows. 2nd ROW: Working in back loop of sts throughout, 2 s c in each of the 1st 2 s c, 1 s c in next s c, cut Lilac (2 sts inc). 3rd and 4th ROWS: With Peacock 2 s c in each of the 1st 2 s c, 1 s c in each re­maining s c, cut Peacock. 5th and 6th ROWS: With Chartreuse re­peat last 2 rows. Repeat the last 2 rows for pattern working stripes as follows: next 2 rows Lilac, next 2 rows Peacock, next 2 rows Chartreuse. Work in pattern in­creasing 2 sts in every row until there are 57 s c, ch 2, turn. NEXT ROW: Skip 1st s c, 1 s c in each s c to within last 2 s c, skip next s c, s c in last s c. With next color continuing stripes as established repeat last row until 3 sts remain, ch 2, turn. NEXT ROW: Skip 1st s c, * insert hook in next st, pull yarn through, repeat from * once, yo hook and pull through all loops, cut yarn.

Work another section in same manner.

UMBRELLA CASE: With Peacock ch 6, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch, join, ch 2, turn. 2nd ROUND: With Peacock and working in back loop of sts only, 2 s c in each of the 1st 2 s c, 1 s c in each remaining s c, join, ch 2, turn. Working stripes same as bag repeat last row until there are 15 s c. Then work even working 1 s c in each s c, joining and turning each round until there are 7 Lilac stripes, cut yarn.

HANDLES: (Make 2). With Lilac ch 2, 5 s c in 2nd st from hook, do not join this or following rounds, place a marker at beg of round. NEXT ROUND: Working through both loops of sts, 1 s c in each s c. Repeat the last round until handle measures 11 inches from beg, cut yarn leaving a length. Fill handle with lengths of yarn and draw sts of end tog, fasten securely.

FINISHING: Block both sections of bag to a 14 inch square. Weave both sections tog having 1st Lilac stripe in right lower edge corner matching rows. Weave 3 sides tog leaving top open. Tack umbrella case across front as illustrated matching stripes. Attach Lilac at side seam of bag, s c in same space, then work 1 s c in each row all around top, join in 1st s c.

NEXT ROUND: Working in both loops of sts, 1 s c in each s c, join, cut yarn. Sew handles in place. Cut plastic 29 x 15 inches, fold in half, sew lower and side seams. Place in bag and tack in position. Cut another piece of plastic 12 x 6 inches, sew seam, gather one edge. Place in um­brella case and tack in position. Sew Velcro in position across in­side top of bag.
