Crocheted Set for 6 Months Pattern

MATERIALS:
Designed in very easy crochet stitches, this charming set features contrasting cluster stripes. The test model was crocheted with Beehive Fingering 3 ply Patonised and other test garments were made with Patwin 3 ply Patonised to give you a choice between two dependable yarns. Of either specified yarn, you will need:— 3 ozs. Main Color (B) and 1 oz. Contrasting Color (A) for the. Set (3 pieces). If made separately, the Jacket requires 2 ozs. Main Color. Bonnet 1 oz. Bootees 1 oz. One No. 2 Steel Crochet Hook (American Gauge). 3 yds. Ribbon. 1 Button.

MEASUREMENTS: Jacket—To fit 19-inch Chest. Length from top of shoulder 10 ins. Sleeve seam 6 ins. Bonnet—Width all round at face edge 13 ins. Depth ins.

Tension: 5 spaces in width =2 ins.; 6 spaces in depth = 1 inch.

THE JACKET

Beginning at neck, with (B), Ch. 59 sts. loosely to measure 9½ ins.

Before proceeding, please read "Important Information" on patternbook page.

1st row: 1.s.c. in 5th Ch. from hook. *Ch. 3. Miss 1 Ch. 1.s.c. in next Ch. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch. 5. Turn. (28 spaces in row).

2nd row: 1.s.c. in 1st. space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch. 5. Turn. (This row makes the space pattern for body).

3rd row: As 2nd row.

4th row: 1.s.c. in 1st. space. *(Ch.3. 1.s.c. in next space)3 times. Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in same space as last s.c. (This increases 1 space). Repeat from * 7 times. (Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space) 3 times. Ch. 5. Turn. (36 spaces in row).

5th and 6th rows: As 2nd row, turning in last row with Ch. 3. Do not break (B) but join (A) in last Ch.

7th row: (right side of work is facing). With (A), holding back the last loop on hook, work 3 d.c. in 1st. space. (4 loops on hook). W.o.h. and draw through these 4 loops. (This makes 1 Cluster).  *Ch. 3. Cluster in next space. Repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off.
These 6 rows of spaces followed by the Cluster row make the pattern.

8th row: With right side of work facing, pick up (B). Ch. 5. Work in space pattern, increasing 1 space in every 2nd space between Clusters and ending row with Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in top of last Cluster. Ch. 5. Turn. (53 spaces in row).

Next 5 rows: As 2nd row, turning in last row with Ch. 3.
14th row: As 7th row.
15th row: As 8th row. (78 spaces in row).

Next 3 rows: As 2nd row.

19th row: Work 12 spaces. Ch. 6. Miss 16 spaces for armhole. 1.s.c. in next space. Work 21 spaces. Ch. 6. Miss 16 spaces for armhole. 1.s.c. in next space. Work last 11 spaces. Ch. 5. Turn.

20th row: Work 11 spaces. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in 2nd st. of Ch. 6 at underarm. Ch. 3. Miss 2 Ch. 1.s.c. in next Ch. Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space.* Work 20 spaces. Work from * to * for other underarm. Work last 11 spaces. Ch. 3. Turn. (48 spaces in row).

**21st row: As 7th row.
22nd row: With right side of work facing, pick up (B). Ch. 5. Work in space pattern, increasing 7 spaces, evenly spaced across row and ending row with Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in top of last Cluster. Ch. 5. Turn. (55 spaces in row).

Next 5 rows: As 2nd row, turning in last row with Ch. 3.**


Being sure to increase 7 spaces in the row after the Cluster row each time, repeat from ** to ** 3 times. There should be 6 Cluster rows in all and 76 spaces in last row. Turn in last row with Ch. 1.

Working around entire jacket in s.c. along lower edge, work 1.s.c. in each s.c. and 2 s.c. in each space; along front edges, work 1.s.c. in each s.c. 1.s.c. in each space and 2 s.c. in each Cluster, being sure to work a Ch. 3 loop at -neck edge for buttonhole; along neck edge, work 1.s.c. in each s.c. and 1.s.c. in each space. Do not turn at end of round.
Next round: 1.s.c. in each s.c. of previous round, working 5 s.c. in the Ch. 3 loop for buttonhole. Fasten off.

To make sleeves: 1st round: With right side of work facing, join (B) in center space at underarm of body. Ch. 4. 1.s.c. in same space as last s.c. of body. Work 16 spaces of armhole. Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in same space as next s.c. of body, 1.d.c. in 1st. st. of Ch. 4 at beginning. Ch. 3. Turn. (19 spaces in round as the d.c. counts as 1 space).
2nd round: 1.s.c. in 1st. Ch. 3 space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * to end of round, ending with 1.d.c. in d.c. of pre­vious round. Ch. 3. Turn. Please note that there is no Ch. 3 before the d.c. (19 spaces in round and this round is similar to the 2nd row of body). Join (A) in last Ch.
3rd round: As 7th row of body, see left column working 1st. Cluster in space made by the d.c. and ending with Ch. 3. 1.s.s. in top of 1st. Cluster. Fasten off. (19 Clusters in round).
4th round: With right side of work facing, pick up (B) and draw a loop through the space to left of 1st. Cluster. Ch. 4. 1.s.c. in next space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * to end of round, ending with 1.d.c. in 1st. st. of Ch. 4 at beginning. Ch. 3. Turn. (19 spaces in round).
Next 5 rounds: As 2nd round.
Repeat last 7 rounds 3 times more, turning in last round with Ch. 1.
Next round: 1.s.c. in each s.c. and 1.s.c. in each space.
Do not turn at end of round.
Next round: 1.s.c. in each s.c. of previous round, working firmly to draw work in slightly. Fasten off.
Press carefully. Darn in all ends. Sew button to correspond to buttonhole.

THE BONNET

Beginning at crown, with (B), Ch. 4 sts. Join with s.s. to form ring. 8 s.c. in ring. 2 s.c. in each of the 8 s.c. (16 s.c. in round). Proceed:—

1st round: *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next s.c. Repeat from * to last s.c. 1.d.c. in last s.c. Ch. 3. Turn. (16 spaces in round).
2nd round: 1.s.c. in 1st. Ch. 3 space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * to end of round, ending with 1.d.c. in d.c. of pre­vious round. Ch. 3. Turn. Please note that there is no Ch. 3 before the d.c. (16 spaces in round).
3rd round: As 2nd round.

4th round: 1.s.c. in 1st. Ch. 3 space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in same space as last s.c. (This increases 1 space). (Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space) twice. Repeat from * to end of round, ending with 1.d.c. in d.c. of previous round. Ch. 3. Turn. (24 spaces in round).

5th and 6th rounds: As 2nd round. Do not break (B) but join (A) in last Ch.

7th round: As 7th row of body of Jacket, see page 12, working 1st. Cluster in space made by the d.c. and ending with Ch. 3. 1.s.s. in top of 1st. Cluster. Fasten off. (24 Clusters in round).

8th round: With right side of work facing, pick up (B) and draw a loop through the space to left of 1st. Cluster. Ch. 4. 1.s.c. in same space (to increase 1 space). Work in space pattern, increasing 1 space in every 3rd space between Clusters and ending with 1.d.c. in 1st. st. of Ch. 4 at beginning. Ch. 3. Turn. (32 spaces in round).

Next 5 rounds: As 2nd round.
14th round: As 7th round. (32 Clusters in round).
15th round: As 8th round, omitting increases. (32 spaces in round).
16th round: As 2nd round.
The crown is now complete. Working backwards and forwards in rows, continue:—

Next 4 rows: As 2nd row of body of Jacket, see page 12, turning
in last row with Ch. 3. (32 spaces in row). Join (A) in last Ch.
Next row: As 7th row of body. (32 Clusters in row).
Next row: As 8th row of body, omitting increases. (32 spaces in row).

Next 5 rows: As 2nd row of body, turning in last row with Ch. 3. Repeat last 7 rows once, turning in last row with Ch. 1. There should be 4 Cluster rows in all.

Working around entire bonnet in s.c. along face edge, work 1.s.c. in each s.c. and 2 s.c. in each space; along neck edge, work 1.s.c. in each s.c. 1.s.c. in each space and 2 s.c. in each Cluster. Do not turn at end of round.
Next round: 1.s.c. in each s.c. of previous round, working firmly along face edge to draw work in slightly. Fasten off. Press lightly. Darn in ends. Make ribbon rosettes and sew to bonnet as illustrat­ed.

THE BOOTEES

To make leg: Beginning at ankle, with (B), Ch. 39 sts. loosely. Join with s.s. to form ring.
1st round: *Ch. 3. Miss 2 Ch. 1.s.c. in next Ch. Repeat from * to last 2 Ch. Miss 2 Ch. 1.d.c. in joining s.s. Ch. 3. Turn. (13 spaces in round).
2nd round: 1.s.c. in 1st. Ch.3 space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * to end of round, ending with 1.d.c. in d.c. of pre­vious round. Ch. 3. Turn. Please note that there is no Ch. 3 before the d.c. (13 spaces in round).

Next 5 rounds: As 2nd round, turning in last round with Ch. 1.
Next round: (right side of work is facing). Work 2 s.c. in each space and 1.s.c. in each s.c. Do not turn at end of round.
Next round: 1.s.c. in each s.c. of previous round. Fasten off.

To make foot: With right side of work facing, join (B) in 5th space of foundation Ch.
1st row: Ch. 5. 1.s.c. in next space. (Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space) 3 times. Ch. 5. Turn. (4 spaces in row).
Next 10 rows: 1.s.c. in 1st. space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch. 5. Turn. Omit last Ch. 5 on last row and fasten off.

With right side of work facing, join (B) in 1st. space of foundation Ch.

1st round: Ch. 4. 1.s.c. in next space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from * around ankle, sides and front of foot, ending with 1.d.c. in 1st. st. of Ch. 4 at beginning. Ch. 3. Turn. (22 spaces in round).

Next 3 rounds: As 2nd round of leg. Do not break (B) but join (A) in last Ch.

5th round: As 7th row of body of Jacket, see page 12, working 1st. Cluster in space made by the d.c. and ending with Ch. 3. 1.s.s. in top of 1st. Cluster. Fasten off. (22 Clusters in round).

6th round: With right side of work facing, pick up (B) and draw a loop through the space to left of 1st. Cluster. Ch. 4. 1.s.c. in next space. *Ch. 3. 1.s.c. in next space. Repeat from'* to end of round, ending with 1.d.c. in 1st. st. of Ch. 4 at beginning. Ch. 3. Turn. (22 spaces in round).

Next 5 rounds: As 2nd round of leg.

Next round: As last round, but having Ch. 2 instead of Ch. 3 for each space. Fasten off. Sew foot seam. Press lightly. Darn in ends. Thread ribbon through 1st. row of space pattern at ankle. Make another bootee to correspond.
