MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mer­cerized Crochet, Size 30: Small Ball: J. & P. Coats—3 balls of White, Ecru or color, or Clark's O.N.T.— 3 balls of White, Ecru or color … Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 … A piece of linen 5½ inches in diameter.

Doily measures 15½ inches in diameter.

CENTER … Make a narrow hem around edge of linen and work sc evenly around, keeping edge flat. Join and break off.

INSERTION … Ch 15. 1st row: In 6th ch from hook make 2 dc, ch 2 and 2 dc (shell made); ch 5, skip 8 ch, in next ch make 2 dc, ch 2 and 2 dc (another shell made). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Shell in sp of shell, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, shell over shell. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: (Shell over shell, ch 5) twice. Turn. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until there are 56 turning ch-5 loops on one side.
   Place 1st and last rows of Insertion together and join with sl st to form a circle, having the 56 loops on outer edge. Work around inner edge as fol­lows: Sl st to center of first ch-5 loop, sc in same loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Sew this rnd to edge of linen center.

PINEAPPLE BORDER ... 1st rnd: Attach thread to first ch-5 loop on Insertion, ch 3, in same loop make dc, ch 2 and 2 dc; in next loop make 2 dc, ch 2 and 2 dc (shell made); * (ch 3, shell in next loop) 3 times; (ch 3, shell in next 2 loops) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, sl st in top of starting chain. 2nd rnd: Sl st in next dc and in sp, ch 3, in same sp make dc, ch 2 and 2 dc (shell made over shell), shell over next shell, * (ch 3, shell over shell) 4 times; shell over shell, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, shell over next 2 shells. Repeat from * around. Join. 3rd rnd: * (Shell over shell) twice; (ch 3, shell over shell) 4 times; shell over shell, ch 5. Repeat from * around. SECOND PINEAPPLE … Attach thread to sp of next shell, ch 5, and work to correspond with First Pine­apple. Complete other pineapples to correspond.
