Dressing Doily Set Pattern

MATERIALS. —3 balls Ardern's Crochet Cotton No. 8 (old ticket number) or No. 10 (new ticket number). Tatting shuttle.

MEASUREMENTS.—Large mat 15 ins. x 13 ins. Small mats 9 ins. diameter.

LARGE MAT

CENTER
Ring 1.—2 ds., 8 p. sep. by 4 ds., 2 ds., close ring, tie and cut.
Ring 2.—As ring 1, join 7th and 8th p. to corresponding p. of 1st ring, tie and cut.
Ring 3.—As ring 1, join 7th and 8th p. to picots opposite join on previous ring, this leaves 16 “free “ picots, tie and cut.

ROUND 1
Ring 1.—4 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., join to 5th p. of 1st ring of center, 3 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 4 ds., close ring, r.w.
*Chain 1.—3 ds., 3 p. sep. by 2 ds., 3 ds., r.w.
Ring 2.—As ring 1 but join 1st and 2nd p. to 4th and 5th p. of previous ring, and 3rd p. to next p. of center, r.w. Repeat from * 4 times more.
Chain 6. — 3 ds., 5 p. sep. by 3 ds., 3 ds., r.w.
Ring 7.—4 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., join to 4th p. of previous ring, 3 ds., join to next p. of center, 3 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 4 ds., close ring, r.w.
Chain 7.—As chain 1.
Ring 8.—As ring 2 join to 3rd ring of center.
Chain 8.—As Chain 6.
Ring 9.—As Ring 7.
**Chain 9.—As Chain 1.
Ring 10.—As ring 8. Repeat from ** 4 times more.
Chain 14.—As chain 6.
Ring 15.—As ring 7.
Chain 15.—As chain 1.
Ring 16.—As ring 2.
Chain 16.—As chain 6. Tie and cut.

ROUND 2
*Ring.—3 ds., 3 p. sep. by 3 ds., 3 ds., close ring, r.w.
Chain.—5 ds., join to center p. of chain 1, of previous round 5 ds., r.w.
Repeat from * to end of round, joining to 1st, 3rd and 5th picots of chains which have 5 p. Tie and cut.

ROUND 3
*Ring.—3 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., join to 2nd p. of ring of previous round, 3 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., close ring, r.w.
Chain.—5 ds., 3 p. sep. by 2 ds., 5 ds., r.w. Repeat from * to end. Tie and cut.

ROUND 4
*Ring 1.—4 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., join to last p. of chain of previous round, 3 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 4 ds., close ring.
Ring 2.—4 ds., join to last p. of previous ring, 2 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., join to first p. of next chain of previous round, 3 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 4 ds., close ring, r.w.
Chain.—5 ds., * 5 p. sep. by 2 ds., 5 ds., r.w.

ROUND 5
As round 2, but join chain to 1st and 5th picots on each chain of previous round.

Work 2 rings as for round 4, but work chain as follows :—

ROUND 10.—As round 4.

SMALL MATS (Make two)

Make one ring only as for center of large mat.

ROUND 1.
*Ring.—4 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., join to p. of center ring, 3 ds., 1 p., 2 ds., 1 p., 4 ds., close ring, r.w.
Chain.—3 ds., 5 p. sep. by 2 ds., 3 ds., r.w.
Repeat from * to end joining the 2nd p. to 4th p. of previous ring, tie and cut.

ROUND 2.
As round 2 of large mat, but joining center of chains to 2nd and 4th picots of chains of previous round.
ROUND 3.—As Round 3 of large mat.
ROUND 4.—As Round 4 of large mat.
ROUND 5.—As Round 5 of large mat.
ROUND 6.—As Round 6 of large mat.
ROUND 7.—As Round 4 of large mat.
