Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 9 balls of Dk. Brown and 10 balls of Ecru.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.

When completed, runner measures about 16 x 41 inches. Motifs are made individually, each about inches square, and then sewed together.

Motif. Starting at center, with Dk. Brown ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 5 (to count as tr), 3 tr in ring, * ch 8, 4 tr in ring. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 8, join with sl st to 5th st of ch-5 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, * s c in each tr, 10 s c in corner loop. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. Break off. This completes one motif.

Make 11 more motifs of Dk. Brown, then place them in a row on a flat surface, and sew together with neat over-and-over stitches on wrong side (thus completing a strip of 12 motifs). Make 3 more strips same as this, and join to previous strip. Then make 7 more strips, but alternating Ecru and Dk. Brown motifs in each strip. Place these strips together so that Dk. Brown motifs fall directly over Ecru motifs, and Ecru motifs fall directly above Dk. Brown motifs, and sew together as before. Work 10 strips of Ecru motifs only, and join as before. Then work remainder of runner to correspond with opposite end.
