MATERIALS—Lily Knitting and Crochet Cotton Yarn, Art. 600:—17-skeins Lt. Green and ½-skein Tea Rose and Reseda (or other colors). Crochet hook size 0. Size—24" x 39".

In Green, ch 36, sk 1, 3 lp sts in next st, 33 lp sts on ch, 4 lp sts in end st, 34 lp sts on other side of ch, sl st in 1st lp st. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in sl st, sc in next 35 sts, (3 sc in next st) twice, sc in next 35 sts, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in 1st corner, sl st in 1st sc. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, 2 lp sts in sl st, * a lp st in next 2 sc, 3 lp sts in next (corner) sc, 37 lp sts across side, * 3 lp sts in next sc. Repeat from * to *. 1 sl st in 1st corner, sl st in 1st lp st. ROW 4—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in sl st, * sc across side (2 more sts than last row and always an uneven no.), 3 sc in corner st, sc across end (2 more sts than last row and always an even no.), * 3 sc in corner st. Repeat from * to *, 1 sc in 1st corner, sl st in 1st sc. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, 2 lp sts in sl st, * lp sts across end (2 more than last row and always an even no.), 3 lp sts in next sc, lp sts across side (2 more than last row and always an uneven no.). * 3 lp sts in next sc. Repeat from * to *. 1 lp st in 1st corner, sl st in 1st lp st. Repeat Rows 4 and 5 thru Row 61 (31 lp st rows) with 122 sts across each end from corner st to corner st inclusive in final row. Fasten off.

Working across one end, with right-side-up, sc in 1st 5 lp sts. Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, 4 lp sts across. Ch 1, turn, 3 sc. Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, 2 lp sts. Ch 1, turn, 1 sc. Ch 1, turn, 1 lp st. Fasten off. * Turn, sk next 12 sts on end, sc in next 13 sts. Ch 1, turn, sk 2 sc, 9 lp sts. Ch 1, turn, sk 2 lp sts, 5 sc. Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, 3 lp sts. Ch 1, turn, sk 1 lp st, 1 sc. Ch 1, turn, 1 lp st. Fasten off. Repeat from * 3 times. Turn, sk next 12 sts on end, sc in 5 sts to corner. Ch 1, turn, 4 lp sts. Ch 1, turn, sk 1 lp st, 3 sc. Ch 1, turn, 2 lp sts. Ch 1, turn, sk 1 lp st, 1 sc. Ch 1, turn, 1 lp st. Fasten off. Repeat across other end.

EDGE—Work 2 rows of sc around rug, with 3 sc in tip of each point on ends. Fasten off.

CIRCLES—In Green, ch 6, sl st in 1st st. Ch 3, 17 dc in ring, sl st in 3-ch. ROW 2—Ch 3, dc in same st, (2 dc in next st) 17 times and join. ROW 3—Ch 3, dc in same st, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next) repeated around and join. ROW 4—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in 2 dc, dc in next dc) repeated around and join. ROW 5—Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around (72 sc). Fasten off. LEAVES—In Reseda, (ch 10, a 2-dc-Cluster in 5th st from hook, ch 3, sl st in Cluster for a p, ch 4, sl st at base of Cluster) 4 times, sl st in starting st. Fasten off. Sew on Circle center. FLOWER—In Tea Rose, (ch 6, a 2-tr-Cluster in 1st st, a 3-ch p, ch 6, sl st at base of Cluster) 4 times, sl st in starting st. Fasten off. Sew on Circle with flower petals between leaves. Make a Green French Knot in flower center.

Make 10 Circles. Sew 5 together into a straight row by 8 sc on each side, leaving 28 sc between joinings on each side of Circle. Sew band of 5 Circles across one end of rug. Repeat on other end. Then make 1 sl st in each st around rug, working tightly.

Stretch and pin rug right-side-down in true shape on a large, padded table or board. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

FLUFF FRINGE—Wind 2 strands Lt. Green 15 times around a 1½” card. Cut at one edge. Tie a tuft to every 3d and 4th sts around Circles and on long sides.
