Starting at bottom of chart, ch 48. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in 14 ch, (ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch) 10 times. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc (bl over sp made), (ch 2, dc in next dc) 4 times (4 sps over 4 sps made); make 2 bls, 2 sps, dc in next 3 dc (bl over bl made); (ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times (3 sps over 3 bls made); dc in next 2 dc, dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, dc in next dc (1 bl increased), make 6 bls, 1 sp, 3 bls, 2 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp, ch 2, sk 2 sts of turning ch, dc in next ch. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: Make 3 sps, 4 bls, 2 sps, 1 bl, 5 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn. 5th to 12th rows incl: Follow chart. Turn. 13th row: Sl st in 3 dc, ch 3 and continue across. Ch 5, turn. Now follow chart to end of 17th row. Ch 5, turn. 18th row: 1 sp, 1 bl, 5 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 3 bls, dc in next 2 dc, make a foundation dc in top st of turning ch as follows. Thread over, insert hook in ch and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 1 loop on hook—ch st made to be used as a foundation st for next dc; (thread over and draw through 2 loops) twice—foundation dc completed. * Thread over, insert hook in specified ch st and complete another foundation dc as before. Repeat from * once more; then insert hook in specified ch at base of last foundation dc and make a dc in usual way (1 bl increased). Ch 3, turn. Now follow chart to top. Repeat entire chart for length desired. Fasten off. Attach thread to end of straight edge and work 2 sc in each sp and sc at end of each row across. Fasten off.
