Stitched Calot Pattern #1157

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 2 balls of any color.
CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 1 ball of a contrasting color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 5.

GAUGE: 6½ sc make 1 inch; 8 rnds make 1 inch.

   Starting at tip of Crown with a double strand of Knit-Cro-Sheen, ch 4. Join with sl st. 1st rnd: 8 sc in ring just made. Do not join rnds. 2nd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (increase). Repeat from * around. 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: Sc in each sc around. 6th rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 7th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing wherever necessary to keep work flat.
   Repeat the last rnd until piece measures 7½ inches in diameter, measuring across center and at base of point. Next rnd: * Sc in each of next 9 sc, then work off the next 2 sc as 1 sc (a decrease). Repeat from * around. Repeat the last rnd 3 more times. Last rnd: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off.
   Attach contrasting color of worsted and work without decreasing for 6 rnds. Fasten off. Divide the first rnd of contrasting color into 12 equal parts and mark with pins. Thread a needle with contrasting color worsted, work a row of back stitches from pin mark all the way up to the top of the Crown, always working 1 st to the left on each row (see illustration). Fasten off. Work 11 more rows to correspond.
