MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 2 balls of any color.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6.

GAUGE: 3 dc make 1 inch; 2 rows make 1⅛ inches.

Wind each ball of thread in half to make 4 threads.

Use 4 threads throughout entire hat.

CROWN … Starting at tip of Crown, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 10 dc in ring. Do not join rnds. 2nd rnd: 2 dc in 3rd ch of 1st ch-3, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around (17 dc). 3rd and 4th rnds: * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around (39 dc at end of 4th rnd). 5th rnd: Dc in each dc around. 6th rnd: Dc in each dc around to within last dc, 3 dc in last dc (these 3 dc indicate center back of cap). 7th rnd: Dc in each dc to within center dc of 3 dc-group, 3 dc in center dc, dc in last dc. 8th to 13th rnds incl: Dc in each dc to within center dc of 3 dc-group, 3 dc in center dc of 3 dc-group, dc in each dc to end of rnd. On the 13th rnd, end with a 3 dc-group, then make dc in next dc, sc in next 2 dc.

BRIM … 1st row: * Ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * to within 2 dc preceding 3 dc-group. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 3, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: 2 sc in 1st sc, * ch 3, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 7th, 8th and 9th rows: Sc in each of first 2 sc, * ch 3, sc in each of next 2 sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Fasten off at end of 9th row. Turn the front of Brim back against Crown. Fold corners of back of Brim against Crown and tack in place. Steam and press.
