Ch 112. Row 1—* Work 1 s c in each of first 8 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of next 8 sts, skip 2 sts; repeat from * across row ending with 3 s c in next st and 1 s c in each of remaining 8 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 2—Taking back loop, work 1 s c in each of first 9 sts, * 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of next 8 sts, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in each of next 8 sts; repeat from * across row ending with 1 s c in each of last 9 sts. Continue as described above always increasing over an increase and decreasing over a decrease, working 8 s c in between (except the first and last panels, which will always have one more st at each end on every row), until piece measures 8½ in. Work another piece to correspond. Sew pleats across bottom by tacking a decrease to a decrease.
GUSSET—Ch 1½ in. Work back and forth in s c, taking back loop, until piece is long enough to fit around 3 sides of bag.
FINISHING—Join gusset to both sides of bag with a s c, catching tip of pleat only across lower edge.
