Size 5 White Crochet Hook

Row 1—Ch 4, work 1 s c in each of the first 2 ch sts, 4 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the 2 sts on other side of ch, ch 1, turn. Row 2—1 s c in each of the first 3 sts (always taking back loop), 2 s c in each of next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of next 3 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 3—1 s c in each of first 4 sts, 2 s c in each of next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of next 4 sts, ch 1, turn. Continue increasing as described above until 20 rows in all have been made, counting row 1 (there will be 21 sts between increases). Ch 4, turn, then work in shell st as follows: Row 1—* 2 tr c, ch 2, 2 tr c in the 2nd s c, skip 1 st, 1 tr c in next st, skip 1 st, repeat from * across row ending with 1 shell pattern, ch 4, turn. Row 2—Repeat Row 1, working the shell group over the ch 2 and the tr c after the shell group, around the front of the post of the tr c of previous row. Row 3—* 3 tr c, ch 2, 3 tr c over the ch 2 of previous row, 1 tr c around the back of the post of the tr c of previous row, ch 4, turn. Row 4—Repeat Row 3, working the tr c around the front of the post of the tr c of previous row, ch 4, turn. Row 5—4 tr c, ch 2, 4 tr c over the ch 2 of previous row, 1 tr c around the back of the post of the tr c of previous row, ch 4, turn. Row 6—Repeat Row 5 working the tr c around the front of the post of the tr c of previous row, ch 2, turn.

BORDERRow 1—1 s c in each of first 5 sts, * 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of next 10 sts; repeat from * across row ending with 3 s c in 6th st from end, 1 s c in each of last 5 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 2—* 1 s c in each of first 6 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of next 6 sts, 1 tr c around the front of the post of last shell row; repeat from * ending with 1 s c in each of next 6 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of last 6 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 3—1 s c in each of first 7 sts, * 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of next 6 sts, skip 3 (the post and 2 s c of previous row), 1 s c in each of next 6 sts; repeat from * ending with 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of last 7 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 4—Skip 1 st, 1 s c in each of next 7 sts, * 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of next 6 sts, 1 tr c around the front of the post of the tr c of 2nd row, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in each of next 6 sts; repeat from * ending with 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of last 6 sts, skip 1 st, 1 s c in last st, ch 1, turn. Row 5—Repeat Row 3 having 8 sts at beginning and end of row. Row 6—Repeat Row 4, having 9 sts at beginning and end of row. Row 7—Repeat Row 3 having 10 sts at beginning and end of row. Fasten off.
   Work a corresponding piece.

FINISHING—Starting at the 4th shell row from the top, sew the 2 pieces tog. around lower edge to the 4th shell row from top at other side. Turn points down over handle and attach to wrong side.
   The 2 pieces may be crocheted tog. with a row of s c if desired.
