MATERIALS: CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS PEARL COTTON, size 5, 1 ball each of a light and dark color.

Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 2.
A bone ring.

With 2 strands of light color, ch 47 (to measure about 7 inches). 1st row: Thread over, insert hook in 4th ch from hook and pull loop through, thread over, draw through 2 loops, thread over, skip 1 ch, insert hook in next ch, thread over and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, * ch 1, thread over, insert hook in same ch where last loop was pulled through and pull loop through, thread over, draw through 2 loops, thread over, skip 1 ch, insert hook in next ch and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, thread over and draw through all loops on hook. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 1, d c in last ch. Fasten off light color, attach 2 strands of dark color and ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Thread over, insert hook in next ch-1 sp and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, * thread over, insert hook in next ch-1 sp, pull loop through, thread over, draw through 2 loops, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1, thread over, insert hook in same sp where last loop was pulled through and pull loop through, thread over, draw through 2 loops. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 1, d c in 3rd st of turning ch. Fasten off dark color, attach 2 strands of light color and ch 4, turn. Repeat 2nd row, alternating colors until there are 8 light and 7 dark stripes. Fasten off. Sew bone ring to one corner.
