  CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX  CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. B.4, Size 30: 5 balls of No.  9 Yellow.
  Milwards Steel Crochet  Hook No. 10.
1 yard yellow organdy, 36 inches wide.
Luncheon Mat measures 16¼ x 22 inches. Napkin measures 13¼ inches square.
LUNCHEON MAT—Edging … Starting at inner edge make a  chain 58 inches long. 1st rnd: Sc in  2nd ch from hook, * ch 4, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, skip next ch, sc in  next ch, ch 5, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, skip next ch, sc in next ch.  Repeat from * until row measures 48 inches, ending with ch-5 loop, ch 3, sl st  in first sc made, being careful not to twist. Cut off remaining chain. Sew ends  of chain together. 2nd rnd: Sl st to  center of next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 3, skip next loop, 7 dc in next  loop, ch 3, skip next loop, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join. 3rd rnd:  Sl st in next 3 ch and in next dc, ch 4, * (dc  in next dc, ch 1) 5 times; dc in next 2 dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to  3rd ch of ch-4. 4th rnd: * (Sc in  next sp, ch 3) 5 times; sc in next sp, ch 5. Repeat from * around. Join. 5th rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same  loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) 4 times; ch 5, dc in next sp, ch 5, sc in next  loop. Repeat from * around. Join. 6th  rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) 3  times; (ch 5, dc in next sp) twice; ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from *  around. Join. 7th rnd: Sl st in next  loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) twice; ch 5, skip next sp, in  next sp make (dc, ch 5) twice and dc; ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop.  Repeat from * around. Join. 8th rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 5, skip next  sp, in next sp make (dc, ch 5, dc in top of last dc made) 3 times; in next sp  make (dc, ch 5, dc in top of last dc made) twice and dc; ch 5, skip next sp, sc  in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
     Pin edging in place  on organdy to form an oval 11¾ x 17¾ inches around inner edge. Trace around  inner edge, cut 2 pieces of organdy, allowing ⅛ inch for hem all around. With  wrong sides facing, place organdy pieces together and machine st ⅛ inch from  edge, leaving a 3-inch opening. Turn inside out and sew up opening. Sew edging  neatly in place.
NAPKIN … Cut 2 pieces of organdy, 12½ inches square. Sew as for Luncheon Mat.
EDGING … 1st rnd: Attach thread to any  corner, 5 sc in same corner, sc closely around, making 5 sc in each corner and  having a number of sc divisible by 3 and 1 extra on each side (not counting  5-sc group at corners). Join. 2nd rnd: Sl st in next sc, ch 8, dc in 6th ch from hook, ** (dc in next sc, ch 5, dc in  top of last dc made) twice; skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, * ch 5, dc in top of last  dc made, skip 2 sc, dc in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in sc  preceding next 5-sc group, ch 5, dc in top of last dc made, skip 1 sc, dc in next  sc, ch 5, dc in top of last dc made. Repeat from ** around. Join and break off.
     Starch edging and  press.
