CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. B.4, Size 30: 5 balls of No. 65 Beauty Pink.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.
½ yard fine pink linen.

TRAY MATPineapple Motif (Make 48) … Starting at base, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st row: Ch 3, 8 dc in ring. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Skip first dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of ch-3. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in first sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 7 times. Ch 7, turn. 4th row: 5 dc in first loop, drop loop from hook, insert hook in first dc, draw dropped loop through (pc st made); (ch 2, pc st in next loop) 6 times. Ch 7, turn. 5th row: Sc in first sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 5 times. Ch 7, turn. 6th row: Pc st in first loop, (ch 2, pc st in next loop) 4 times. Ch 7, turn. 7th row: Sc in first sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 3 times. Ch 7, turn. 8th row: Pc st in first loop, (ch 2, pc st in next loop) twice. Ch 1, turn. 9th row: Sc in first sp, ch 7, sc in next sp. Break off.

EDGING1st rnd: Attach thread to ch-7 loop on first pc st row of any motif, sc in same loop, * (ch 7, sc in next loop) twice; ch 7, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make 2 dc in next loop, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); ch 7, cluster in same loop, (ch 7, sc in next loop on side of pineapple) 3 times; ch 9, sc in first loop on next pineapple. Repeat from * until all pineapples have been joined, ending with ch 9, sl st in first sc. 2nd rnd: Sl st to center of first loop, (ch 7, sc in next loop) twice; * ch 7, in next sp make cluster, ch 7 and cluster; (ch 7, sc in next loop) twice; ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make tr in each of next 2 ch-7 sps, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (joint-tr made); ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 7, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with tr in last loop. Join to 4th ch of starting ch-7. Break off.

HEADING 1st rnd: Attach thread to starting ring of any motif, sc in same place, (ch 5, dc in end dc on 2nd row of motif, ch 5, dc in next ch-9 sp, ch 5, dc in end dc on 2nd row of next motif, ch 5, sc in starting ring of same motif) 12 times; dc in end dc on 2nd row, tr in next ch-9 sp, dc in end dc on 2nd row of next motif, sc in starting ring (corner formed); (ch 5, dc in end dc on 2nd row of motif, ch 5, dc in next ch-9 sp, ch 5, dc in end dc on 2nd row of next motif, ch 5, sc in starting ring of same motif) 8 times; make another corner as before. Complete other sides and corners the same way. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 9, * (dc in next dc, ch 5) 3 times; dc in next sc, ch 5. Repeat from * across side, ending with dc in last dc preced­ing corner, ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make tr in next 9 sts, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 5, dc in next dc and complete other sides and corners to correspond. Join and break off.
   Pin Edging in place on linen. Cut linen ¼ inch larger than inside of Edging. Roll a narrow hem all around. Sew Edging in place.

NAPKIN … Cut a piece of linen 12 inches square. Roll a narrow hem all around. 1st rnd: Attach thread to any corner, 3 sc in same corner, sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc in next 5 sc. Repeat from * across side, ending with a 5-sc group and having last sc of group in first sc of 3-sc group at corner, ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc in next 5 sc and complete other sides and corners the same way. Join. 3rd rnd: Sl st in first loop, ch 3, 4 dc in same loop, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of ch 3 and com­plete a pc st, * ch 5, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, ch 5, pc st in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
   Starch lightly and press.
