1 ball makes 1⅜ yards of edging.

   Starting at heading, make a chain to measure 2 inches longer than desired length. 1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip next 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * until row measures desired length, having a number of sps divisible by 8 plus 1. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: In first sp make 2 dc, ch 2 and 2 dc (shell made); * ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next sp, ch 5, skip next sp, in next sp make dc, ch 5 and dc; ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next sp, ch 5, skip next sp, make a shell in next sp. Repeat from * across, ending with shell in last sp. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: Make shell in ch-2 sp of next shell (shell over shell), * ch 5, skip next 2 loops, in next loop make (tr, ch 1) 7 times and tr (pineapple); ch 5, skip next 2 loops, shell over shell. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: * Shell over shell, ch 5, (sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 3) 6 times; sc in next sp, ch 5. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 5th row: Shell over shell, * ch 5, (sc in next ch-3, ch 3) 5 times; sc in next ch-3, ch 5, in next shell make (2 dc, ch 2) twice and 2 dc. Repeat from * across, ending with shell over shell. Ch 5, turn. 6th row: Shell over shell, * ch 5, (sc in next ch-3, ch 3) 4 times; sc in next ch-3 loop, ch 5, shell in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, shell in next ch-2 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with shell over shell. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: * Shell over shell, ch 5, (sc in next ch-3, ch 3) 3 times; sc in next ch-3, ch 5, shell over shell, ch 1, 2 dc in next sp, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with shell over shell, ch 1, 2 dc in last sp. Ch 1, turn. 11th row: Over next 2 dc work off 2 sc as 1 sc—joint sc made; (ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook—picot made—make a joint sc over next 2 dc) 3 times; * ch 5, make a joint sc (picot, make a joint sc) 9 times. Repeat from * across. Break off. Starch lightly and press.
