Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 20 or 30; or for daintier medallions use J. & P. Coats Tatting Cotton, size 70.

 

Round Medallion, no. 829: Make ring of 8 lp's separated by 3 d s. Tie firmly and fasten off. 1st rnd: Tie thread ends of shuttle and ball. * R, 5 d s, join to p of center ring, 5 d s, close. On ball thread make ch of 5 d s. R, 5 d s, p, 5 d s, close. On ball thread make ch of 5 d s, p, 5 d s. Make another ring same as one just made and ch of 5 d s. Repeat from * around center ring and fasten off. 2nd rnd: Attach thread to p of an edge ring and make ch of 4 d s, p, 4 d s, join to next p and continue around. 3rd rnd: Ch of 5 d s, join to p of ch below, p, 5 d s, join at same place as chs of previous rnd and continue around. Fasten off.

 

Square Medallion, no. 830: Make ring of 4 lp's separated by 7 d s. Tie firmly and fasten off. 1st rnd: Tie thread ends of shuttle and ball. * R, 4 d s, 8 p's separated by 2 d s, 4 d s, close. Turn, r, 4 d s, 5 p's separated by 2 d s, 2 d s, join to p of center ring, 2 d s, 5 p's separated by 2 d s, 4 d s, close. On ball thread make ch of 8 d s, 3 p's separated by 1 d s, 8 d s. R, 6 d s, join to last p of ring just made, 6 d s, close. On ball thread make ch of 2 d s, p, 2 d s. R, 6 d s, p, 6 d s, close. On ball thread make ch of 8 d s, 3 p's separated by 1 d s, 8 d s. Repeat from * around, joining rings as shown in illustration. Fasten off.
