No. 816, Materials: J. & P. Coats Tatting Cotton, size 70. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10 or 11. 1st row: S c closely along edge of material, join. 2nd row: Ch 5, * skip 1 s c, d c in next, ch 1, repeat from * along row. In corner s c make 3 d c with ch-1 between. Continue along edge and join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-5 first made. 3rd row: Ch 1, s c in 1st sp. * 2 knot sts, skip 2 sps, s c in next. (To make a knot st, draw out loop ¼ inch long, 1 ch st through this loop. Put hook between loop and single thread of this ch and make 1 s c.) 3 knot sts, skip 3 sps, s c in next, repeat from * along row. Plan work so that the 3 skipped sps will be those just before the corner. In each corner 2 sps, make 1 s c with 3 knot sts between. Join with sl st in 1st s c of row.

4th row: Ch 2, ** s c in knot between first pair of next knot sts, 1 knot st, s c over 2 loops of center knot st of next 3 knot st group. * 3 knot sts, s c in same loop, repeat from * 2 more times, 1 knot st. Repeat from ** around. At corner, make s c in 1st corner s c of previous row, 1 knot st, s c in center of corner 3 knot sts, then make 4 groups of 3 knot sts in same loop, 1 knot st, and continue pattern. Join with sl st in first s c made. 5th row: Ch 3, over 2 loops of each of the center knot sts of the groups previously made, make 7 s c, thus forming a scalloped edge.
