Lavabo Towel Pattern #9058

Lace measures about 1 inch deep. Completed towel measures 6 x 14 inches.

MATERIALS:
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 80, 1 ball of White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 14.
¼ yd. linen, 18 inches wide.

GAUGE: 9 sps make 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at one end, ch 20. 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch (2 sps); make 2 more sps, d c in each of last 3 ch. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in next ch, d c in next d c (1 bl increased); ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in next d c (2 sps), d c in each of next 2 ch, d c in next d c (1 bl), 2 sps. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 1 sp, 4 bls, ch 2, skip 2 d c, foundation d c in 3rd st of turning ch—to make a foundation d c, thread over, insert hook in ch, thread over and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 1 loop, thus making a chain st; complete as for a d c. Make 2 more foundation d c by inserting hook in ch of previous d c; then make a d c in usual way (1 bl increased); turn. 4th row: Sl st in each of 4 d c, ch 3, d c in each of next 2 ch, d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in each of next 4 d c, 2 sps. Ch 5, turn. 5th row: 4 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn (this completes one pattern). Repeat pattern until piece measures 6 inches. Fasten off. Make another piece like this. Make a towel 6 x 12 inches, and sew a piece of lace across both short ends.
