MATERIALS for No. 5189

J. & P. COATS CROCHET CORD, 1 ball each of Red, Blue and White.

Steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.

A 6-inch zipper.

GAUGE: 10 sts make 1 inch; 4 rnds make 1 inch.

Stripe pattern is made by working 2 rnds of Red, 2 rnds of White and 2 rnds of Blue and repeating this se­quence of color throughout.

BEANIE ... Starting at top with Red, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook (12 dc, counting turning ch as 1 dc). Join with sl st in top st of turning ch. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each st around (24 sts). Join with sl st to top st of 1st ch made. Drop Red, attach White. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around (36 sts). Join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around (48 sts). Join. Drop White, attach Blue. 5th rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around (60 sts). Join. 6th rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc. Repeat from * around (72 sts). Join. Drop Blue, pick up Red.

Continue thus in stripe pattern, in­creasing 12 sts on each rnd until piece measures 6¼ inches in diameter. Now work straight in stripe pattern until piece measures 5 inches from top. Work 1 rnd of sl st around, being careful to keep correct head size. Fasten off.

BEANIE BAG ... Make another piece same as this for bag. Line bag and sew zipper across center 6 inches of opening.

WRIST LOOP ... With Red, ch 63; sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, h dc in next 3 ch, dc in next 50 ch, h dc in next 3 ch, sc in next 3 ch. Fasten off. Sew narrow ends of this piece to zipper pull.
