Children's Slippers Pattern

Materials Required—AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" PEARL COTTON, Size 5.
6-60 Yd. Balls Dark Steel Blue or any Color desired.
1-60 Yd. Ball Linen for Trim.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

Directions are given for 5-6-7 yr. sizes. (3-4 yr. and 9-10 yr. sizes are given in parenthesis.)
Slippers are worked with double thread.

Soles. Using Dk. Color, ch 38 (34-42) and work 3 s d c in 2nd st from hook, (s d c, thread over, insert in st and work off all loops at one time) 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of next 33 sts, (29-37) 2 s d c in next st, 3 s d c in last st. Working on other side of ch, 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of next 33 sts, (29-37) 2 s d c in next st, join with a sl st.
2nd Row. Ch 2, 1 s d c in same space, 2 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s d c in each of next 36 sts, (32-40) 2 s d c in each of next 3 sts, 1 s d c in each remaining st, join.
3rd Row. Ch 2, 1 s d c in same space, * 1 s d c in next st, 2 s d c in next st, repeat from * 3 times, 1 s d c in each of the next 34 sts (30-38) * 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in next st, repeat from * 3 times, 1 s d c in each remaining st, join.
4th Row. Ch 3, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 5 times, 1 d c in each of the next 18 sts, (16-20) 1 s d c in each of next 8 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 12 sts, (10-14) * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 4 times, 1 d c in each of the next 12 sts, (10-14) 1 s d c in each of the next 8 sts, 1 d c in each remaining st, join.
5th Row. Ch 3, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 9 times, 1 d c in each of the next 17 sts, (15-19) 1 s c in next 17 sts, (15-19) * 2 s d c in next st, 1 s d c in next st, repeat from * 8 times, 1 s c in each of next )7 sts, (15-19) 1 d c in each remaining st, join, break thread.
Vamp. Ch 18, (14-22) s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 8 sts, (6-10) 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each remaining st, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. Working in back loop of st only, work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. 1 s c in each st to center, 3 s c in center st, 1 s c in each remaining st, ch 1, turn, repeat last 2 rows 10 times, (8-12) break thread.
Back part of slipper. Ch 10, work 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, 1 s c in each remaining ch, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. Working in back loop of st only, work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
Repeat 2nd row 58 times, (54-62) break thread.
Sew back section to vamp. Pin 2 sections together, and then crochet together with a row of s c.
With Dk. Steel Blue, attach single thread at side of back of slipper, ch 5, d c in next rib, * ch 2, d c in next rib, repeat all around back section of slipper, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 s c in mesh, * ch 3, sl st in top of s c just made for picot, 1 s c in same mesh, 1 s c in next mesh, repeat from * all around, break thread.
Cord. Using Linen shade, take 6-1½ yd strands, twist tightly, hold both ends allowing it to twist itself, knot both ends leaving ¾ inch for tassel. Lace cord through meshes.
Tassels. Using Linen shade, wind 15 strands over a 1 inch cardboard, cut one end. tie in center, then tie about ¼ inch down from top. Work 3 tassels for each slipper and attach as illustrated.
