Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" NYLON or NYLON POMPADOUR
or
"DAWN" BABY YARN
1 ounce each Buttercup and White or colors of your choice and
"STAR" SIX STRAND MERCERIZED EMBROIDERY COTTON, Article 50
1 skein Baby Blue
Steel crochet hook No. 1

Sole: With Buttercup chain (ch) 20, 3 double crochet (dc) in 4th stitch (st) from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts of ch, short double crochet (sdc) in next st of ch (sdc: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 single crochet (sc) in each of the next 2 sts of ch, sdc in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 treble crochet (tr c) in each of the next 6 sts, 9 tr c in last st, working on opposite side of ch, 1 tr c in each of the next 6 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, sdc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sdc in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 4 dc in same space where 1st 3 dc were made, join in 3rd st of ch.
2nd Round. Ch 3, dc in same space, 2 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 16 sts, 2 dc in each of the next 7 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 16 sts, 2 dc in each remaining st, join.
3rd Round. Ch 1 and work 1 sc in each st, join, cut yarn.
Instep: Ch 9, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Repeat the 2nd row 8 times, at end of last row ch 30 for leg part of bootie, slip stitch (sl st) at opposite end of last row.
Working around instep work 9 sc down side of instep, 3 sc in corner, 6 sc across lower edge, 3 sc in corner, 9 sc up opposite side of instep, then work 1 sc in each st of ch, join in 1st sc.
Next Round. Working in back loop of sts, ch 4, 1 tr c in each st all around, join in 4th st of ch.
Next Round. Ch 1 and working in back loop of sts, work 1 sc in each st, join.
Next Round. Working in back loop of sts only, ch 4, 1 tr c in each sc, join, cut yarn.
Pin sole in position at lower edge of upper section and with White crochet the 2 sections together with a row of sc working through inside loop of sts of sole and of upper section.
Cuff: With front of bootie toward you attach Buttercup at left side of instep, ch 4 and work 1 tr c in each st all around, join each row.
2nd Row. Working in back of loop of sts, work 1 sc in each st.
3rd Row. Working through both loops of sts, work 1 sc in each st.
4th Row. Ch 4, working in back loop of sts, 1 tr c in each sc.
5th Row. Same as 2nd row of cuff, cut yarn.
Attach White and working through both loops of sts, work 1 sc in each sc, join, cut yarn.
Lace ribbon through 1st row of cuff lacing over 2 tr c and under next 2 tr c. Work another bootie in same manner.

Dolls: Body — Wind White 20 times over a 1⅛ inch cardboard.
Tie one end. Slip off cardboard and cut other end. Tie about ¼ inch down from top to form neck.
Arms — Wind White 10 times over same cardboard. Slip off cardboard and tie each end. Insert under neck, tie securely to form waist. Divide equally to form legs. Tie each end and trim.

Clothes: For Girl — With Blue ch 7 for skirt, 2 sc in 2nd st from hook, 2 sc in each remaining st of ch, cut thread.
Hat: With Blue ch 4, sl st in 4th st from hook to form a circle, cut thread.
Hair: Cut 3 strands of Buttercup, tie one end with Blue. Braid for ¾ inch, tie with Blue and cut other end. With Blue embroider a small st for eyes and mouth. Sew skirt, hair and hat in position. Work 2 sts for suspenders. Sew doll to instep of bootie.

Boy — Work body same as for girl.
Leg of Pants: With Blue ch 7, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2nd and 3rd Rows. 1 sc in each sc, cut thread.
Work another pant's leg in same manner. Sew around each leg.
Work hat same as for girl. Finish in same manner.
