Sacque Pattern #5211

 

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, size 5, 7 balls of main color and 1 ball of contrasting color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0.
½ yard narrow ribbon.

GAUGE: 2 clusters make 1 inch; 2 rows make 1 inch.

   Starting at bottom of back, make a chain to measure about 17 inches (6 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 2, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make 3 dc in sp between dc just made and starting ch, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), * skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 2, make cluster as before over last dc made. Repeat from * across until 24 clusters are made, ending with skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Cut off remaining ch. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: 2 tr in tip of 1st cluster (shell made), 3 tr in tip of each cluster across, 3 tr in top st of turning ch (25 shells). Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in center st of 1st shell, * ch 2, make cluster over dc just made, dc in center st of next shell. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in center st of last shell. Ch 4, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows for pattern until piece measures 5 inches, ending with 3rd row of pattern. Next row: Work in pattern across row, ch 19 for sleeve, turn. Drop thread, attach another piece of thread at opposite end of row and ch 17 for other sleeve, fasten off. Go back and pick up 1st thread and work in pattern across ch as on 1st row of back, continue in pattern across back and work in pattern across other ch as before (35 clusters). Ch 4, turn. Continue in pattern until piece measures 9½ inches from bottom of back, ending with 3rd row of pattern. Next row: Work across 14 clusters for shoulder. Ch 4, turn. Work over these sts only for 1½ inches ending with 2nd row of pattern. Ch 13 for front of neck, turn. Following row: Work in pattern across chain as on 1st row of back, continue in pattern across row. Work straight for 3½ inches, ending with 3rd row of pattern. Next row: Sl st across 5 clusters, finish row in pattern. Then work over remaining sts for 5 inches, ending with 3rd row of pattern. Fasten off. Skip next 7 clusters on last complete row. Attach thread and work to correspond with other side. Sew side seams and sleeve seams.

EDGING … With right side facing, attach contrasting color thread at bottom of right front edge and, working toward neck, make dc in base of 1st row, * ch 2, make cluster over dc just made, dc in base of next row. Repeat from * along right front edge, around neck edge (making dc in tip of each cluster or in base of each row as the case may be) and along left front edge to correspond. Fasten off. Work edging in same manner along the bottom of each sleeve. Fasten neck with ribbon.
