Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—8 balls of White or Ecru, or 12 balls of any color,
or
J. & P. Coats—6 balls of White or Ecru, or 8 balls of any color.
Big Ball:
J. & P. Coats—3 balls of White or Ecru, or 4 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 1½ inches diagonally across center.

Chair Back—11½ x 17 inches
Arm Pieces—7 x 10 inches

CHAIR BACK—First Motif … Starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4 (to count as tr), 2 tr in ring, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook. Thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten, (a 3-tr cluster made), * ch 3, 3 tr in ring holding back the last loop of each tr on hook, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (another 3-tr cluster made). Repeat from * 6 more times, ch 3; join with sl st to tip of 1st cluster made (8 clusters in rnd). 2nd rnd: * Sc in next sp, ch 8, sc in same sp, ch 8, skip next sp; repeat from * around, ending rnd with sl st in first sc made. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next 2 ch, sc in loop, ch 6 (to count as dc and ch-3), dc in same loop, * ch 5, 9 sc in next loop, ch 5; in corner loop make dc, ch 3, dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-5, sl st in 3rd st of ch-6 first made. Fasten off.

Second Motif … Work 1st 2 rnds as for 1st motif. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next 2 ch, sc in loop, ch 4 (to count as dc and ch-1), sc in a corner ch-3 loop of 1st motif, ch 1, dc in same loop on 2nd motif as last sc was made, ch 5, 9 sc in next ch-8 loop, ch 5, dc in corner loop, ch 1, sc in corresponding ch-3 loop on 1st motif, ch 1, dc in same place on 2nd motif as last dc was made, and complete rnd as for 1st motif. Make 142 more motifs, joining them as 2nd motif was joined to 1st, in the following order: 8 rows of 15 motifs, 1 row of 13 motifs and 1 row of 11 motifs. Where 4 corners meet, join 3rd and 4th corners to joining of previous 2 corners.

ARM PIECES … Make 52 motifs for each arm piece joining as follows: 8 rows of 6 motifs and 1 row of 4 motifs.
