Materials:
HIAWATHA Super Crepe Corde Art. 42, 4 tubes or
HIAWATHA Super Twist Rayon Cord Art. 41, 4 tubes
Bone crochet hook No. 3
½ yd. lining material 1 yd. wide
Bone ring 1¼" in diameter

BOTTOM
Starting at center ch 5. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd—8 sc in ring. Do not join, but mark beginning of rnds.
2nd rnd—* Sc in next st, ch 1, sc in same place, sc in next st. Repeat from * around.
3rd rnd—* Sc in the ch-1, then ch 1, work another sc in same place, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * around.
4th rnd—* Sc in each sc to ch-1, in ch-1 work sc, ch 1 and sc. Repeat from * around. Continue in this manner always working sc, ch 1 and sc in ch-1 at each corner until square measures 5" across. There will be 2 more sts between ch-1's on each rnd. End last rnd with sl st in corner. Turn.

SIDES
Work along sts of one side as follows:
1st row—Insert hook in next sc and draw loop through, * insert hook in following sc and draw loop through. Repeat from * across, retaining all loops on hook. This completes first half of row. Work 2nd half of row as follows: Thread over and draw through 1 loop, * thread over and draw through 2 loops. Repeat from * across until only 1 loop remains on hook.
2nd row—Insert hook under vertical strand of next st and draw loop through (2 loops on hook), * ch 5, draw up loop under vertical strand of each of next 4 sts. Repeat from * across. Work 2nd half of row in same way that 2nd half of 1st row was worked
3rd row—* Insert hook under vertical strand of next st and draw loop through. Repeat from * across. Complete row in same manner as previous rows.
4th row—Draw up loop under vertical strand of each of next 3 sts (4 loops on hook), * ch 5, draw up loop in next 4 sts. Repeat from * across. Finish as before.
5th row—Same as 4th row.
Repeat the last 4 rows until side is 5¼".
Next row—Work sc under vertical bar of each st across. Ch 1, turn.
Following row—Work sc in front loop only of each st.
Work Top as follows: Work in pattern, decreasing 2 sts at each end of every row to point. Fasten off. Attach corde at bottom of side, work sc along side to top, work 2 sc in same st for corner, continue sc along top to point, ch 60, sl st in each ch back to point, sc along other side of top piece, 2 sc in same st for corner, sc to bottom.
Pick up sts along bottom and work each of remaining 3 sides in same way.

FINISHING
Cut 15" square of cardboard, then cut 5" square out of each corner. Fold box into shape and join at corners with adhesive tape, also reinforcing folds and top edges. Cut one of the 5" squares into 4 triangular shaped pieces and cover each piece with lining material. Sew one cardboard tri­angle to inside of each piece of top of bag. Cover cardboard box with lining material. Starting at the bottom, join any side seam of bag by slip stitching together (seam should be 5" long). Do not fasten off but work sl st along top to point, sl st along each st of cord and back, sl st along other side of point, fasten off. Join remaining 3 seams in same way. Insert box in bag and tack at all seams. Tack lining of top pieces to top of bag lining and cover joinings by couching strand of corde over seams. Cover bone ring with sc. Draw all cords through ring and make handles by knotting to­gether ends of adjacent cords.
