Materials:
HIAWATHA Super Corde Art. 38 or 39, 4 tubes or
HIAWATHA Super Crepe Corde Art. 42, 4 tubes
Steel crochet hook No. 0 or bone crochet hook No. 3
8" TALON Slide Fastener Style 148 (available at all notion counters)
HIAWATHA Lining Material and Buckram Art. H-113
2 HIAWATHA Lucite Handles No. 6227

SIDES (Make 2)
Starting at top, make a chain 13" long.
1st row—Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Make sure number of sts is a multiple of 3 plus 2. Ch 3, turn.
2nd row—* Dc in next 2 sts, thread over, insert hook in next st and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops on hook, thread over, skip last 2 dc made, insert hook at base of previous st and draw long loop through (across the 2 skipped dc), thread over and draw through 3 loops, thread over and draw through re­maining 2 loops. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in last st. Ch 3, turn.
Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 7", then ch 1 and work 1 row of sc across.
For bottom work as follows:
1st row—Work sc in back loop of each st. Working through both loops of each st work sc until bottom measures 1½".
Work sc along sides and top, working 3 sc at corners. Fasten off.

GUSSETS (Make 2)
Starting at bottom make a chain 3½" long and work same as sides until piece meas­ures 7". Work sc around and fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew seam at center of bottom. Cut linings and interlining, following directions in kit H-113. Make lining, sewing slide fastener across center 8" of top, and inserting card­board in bottom. Mark center top of gus­set lining and sew top of one-half of gusset to each side of bag lining. Join bag as fol­lows: Working with sides of bag toward you, sl st gusset in place along sides and bottom, working 3 sc in each corner.
Insert lining in bag, then work sc along top of each side, joining tops of gussets in same way that lining gussets were joined. Sew lining in place, tacking along all seams. Make 2 pieces of pattern stitch 2" x 3½" and sew on handles.
