Mittens Pattern
SIZE 1.
MATERIALS—SPINNERIN BABY WOOL 2 balls, steel Crochet Hook No. 00, 1 set double point needles No. 2.
GAUGE—5 sts. = 1 inch. 6 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.
PATTERN—Single Crochet.
RIGHT MITT—Using double strand of yarn, ch 30 and join to form ring. Work 1 S. C. in each ch. Work round and round for 3 more rounds. Ch 4, skip 6 sts. for thumb opening. Work round and round on these 28 sts. (working 1 S. C. on each ch) for 1 round. Inc. 1 st. at the beg. of the next round. Work 1 round even. Inc. 1 st. at the beg. of next round. Work 5 rounds even. Dec. 2 sts. at even intervals on each of the next 3 rounds. Dec. every 3rd st. for 2 rounds, then every other st. for 1 round. Fasten off. Pull thread through to wrong side of work and close top of mitten.
THUMB—Work around opening in S. C. Work 4 rounds even. Dec. 3 sts. in next round. Fasten off as for top of mitt.
WRIST—Pick up 32 sts. around bottom of mitt, using No. 2 double point needles. Divide on 3 needles and work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 8 rounds. Bind off.
LEFT MITT—Work to correspond with right mitt.
CORD—Using 3 strands of yarn, attach to bottom of mitt at thumb. Ch 90 loosely and fasten to other mitt in corresponding place.
