INSERTION—First Motif … Starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 6, (dc in ring, ch 3) 7 times. Join to 3rd ch of ch-6. 2nd rnd: In each sp around make sc, half dc, dc, 3 tr, dc, half dc and sc. Join and break off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif until first rnd has been completed. 2nd rnd: In next sp make sc, half dc, dc, 2 tr, sl st in center tr of any petal on First Motif, in same sp on Second Motif make tr, dc, half dc and sc; in next sp make sc, half dc, dc, 2 tr, join to center tr of next petal on First Motif and complete rnd as for First Motif (no more joinings).
   Continue joining motifs in this manner until piece reaches across towel, joining motifs as Second Motif was joined to First Motif, leaving 2 petals free on each side of joinings.
   Now work across long side as follows: 1st row: Attach thread to center tr of 3rd free petal preceding joining of First Motif, ch 9, * (dc in center tr of next petal of same motif, ch 5) twice; holding back on hook the last 2 loops of each tr make tr in the tr preceding and the tr following the next joining, (thread over, draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times (joint tr made), ch 5. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in center tr of 3rd petal following joining of last motif. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: * Skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in 6th ch of ch-9. Break off. Work along opposite side the same way.
   Press insertion and sew neatly to towel.
