MATERIALS—DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 30:—2-bails White and 1-ball Med. Blue. 1-skein Lily Six Strand Floss in Yellow. Crochet hook size 13. Size—16" square.

CENTER—In White, ch 9, sl st in 1st st. Ch 1, 16 sc in ring, sl st in 1st sc. (Ch 4, sc in next sc) 15 times, ch 2, dc in next sc. ROW 2—* (Ch 4, sc in next lp) 3 times, ch 4, (sc, ch 6, sc) in next lp. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-3 and dc for final corner lp. ROW 3—* (Ch 4, sc in next lp) repeated to corner, ch 6, sc in same corner. Repeat from * around, ending as in last row. Repeat thru 10 lp rows. ROW 11—* (Ch 5, sc in next lp, ch 3, sc in next) 6 times, ch 5, sc in next (corner) lp. Repeat from * around. ROW 12—Sl st to center st of next lp, ch 5, 7 tr in same st, * (ch 5, sk next ch-3 lp, sc in next ch-5 lp, ch 5, sk next ch-3 lp, 8 tr in 1 lp of center st of next ch-5 lp) 3 times, ch 4, 8 tr in center st of next ch-5 lp. Repeat from * around. End with ch 4, sl st in 1st ch-5. ROW 13—Ch 15, holding back the last lp of each tr on hook, make tr in same st with sl st and tr in next 7 tr, thread over and pull thru ½ the lps on hook, thread over and pull thru remaining lps on hook (a Cluster made). * Ch 7, dtr in same tr where last tr was made, ch 1, dtr in 1st tr in next shell, ch 7, (tr in 8 tr of same shell) made into a Cluster as before. Repeat from * around, except at corners make ch-9 instead of ch-1 between 2 dtr. End with ch 9, sl st in 8th st of 1st ch-15. ROW 14—Ch 5, 7 tr in same st, * (ch 5, sc in next Cluster, ch 5, 8-tr shell in ch-1 between next 2 dtr) repeated across to corner, making final shell in 1st dtr at corner, ch 5, sc in corner ch-9, ch 5, 8 tr in next dtr. Repeat from * around. End with sl st in 1st ch-5. Repeat Rows 13, 14 and 13. Repeat Row 14 again except at corners, make a ch-13 lp between 2 corner shells. ROW 19—Ch 5, * (2 tr in next tr) 7 times, ch 1, tr in 1st tr in next shell. Repeat from * to corner. Ch 1, 9 tr in center st of corner ch-9 lp, ch 1, tr in 1st tr of next shell. Repeat from * around and join. Points—* (Ch 5, sk 2 tr, sc in next tr) 4 times, ch 2, sk 1 tr, dc in next tr. Turn, (ch 5, sc in next lp) 3 times, ch 2, dc in end lp. Turn, (ch 5, sc in next lp) twice, ch 2, dc in end lp. Ch 5, turn, sc in next lp, ch 2, dc in end lp. Ch 5, turn, sc in next lp. Cut 3" long. Sc in 1st tr in next shell and repeat from * in 7 shells across each side. At corners, sc in 1st tr, ch 5, sk 1 tr, sc in next tr, (ch 5, sc in next tr) 4 times, ch 2, sk 1 tr, dc in end tr. Ch 5, turn and work out point to a single lp. Repeat at each corner. Next Row—7 sc in ch-5 lp at tip of one corner point, and working over thread end left from each point, make (3 sc in next sp) 5 times, sc between points, (3 sc in next sp) 4 times, 7 sc in tip ch-5, (3 sc in next sp) 4 times, sc between points. Repeat around. Heading Row—Sl st in 1st 4 sc, ch 25, dtr in same sc, * ch 8, sk 7 sc, dtr in next sc, (ch 15, dc in tip of next point) 7 times, ch 15, dtr in 11th sc up corner point, ch 8, (dtr, ch 17, dtr) in tip of same point. Repeat from * around. End with ch 8, sl st in 8th st of 1st ch-25. ROW 2—Sc in corner lp, ** (ch 5, sc in same lp) 5 times, ch 5, sc in next lp, (ch 5, sc in same lp) twice, ch 5, sc in next lp, * (ch 5, sc in same lp) 4 times, ch 5, sc in next lp. Repeat from * 7 times. (Ch 5, sc in same lp) twice, ch 5, sc in next lp. Repeat from ** around. ROW 3—Sl st to center of 1st lp, ch 2, hdc in next lp, ch 2, (hdc, ch 5, hdc) in next (corner) lp, (ch 2, hdc in next lp) repeated around with each corner like 1st one. ROW 4—Ch 3, 3 dc in each sp around, with 10 dc in corner lps. Join.

RUFFLE—Ch 11, sk 1 dc, tr in next dc, (ch 6, sk 1 dc, tr in next dc) repeated around. At corners, * ch 6, (tr, ch 6, tr) in next dc. Repeat from * in each of 10 dc in corner lp. End row with ch 3, dc in 5th st of 1st lp. ROW 2—Ch 11, tr in next lp, (ch 6, tr in next lp) repeated around. End as last row. Repeat once. ROW 4—Start with ch-12 and make ch-7 lps and tr around. End as last rows. Repeat once. ROW 6—Start with ch-13 and make ch-8 lps around. End with ch-4 and tr. Repeat once. ROW 8—Start with ch-14 and make ch-9 lps around. End as last rows. Repeat once. ROW 10—Start with ch-15 and make ch-10 lps around. Fasten off.

FORGETMENOT EDGE—In Blue, ch 4, dc in 1st st, ch 3, sl st in same st, ch 4, dc in 1st st, ch 1, sl st in one lp on ruffle, ** ch 3, sl st up in same st with last dc, (ch 4, dc in 1st st *) 3 times, ch 1, swing hook around to right and make a sl st in next lp to right around ruffle. Repeat from ** around. End at * in final flower, sl st in 1st petal of 1st flower. ROW 2—Ch 4, sl st back in same st with last dc, * (ch 4, dc in 1st st, ch 3, sl st in same st) twice, sk 3 petals, sl st at base of next (bottom) petal, ch 4, sl st (tight) between next 2 petals (between flowers), ch 4, sl st at base of next petal. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. Make a Yellow French Knot in center of each flower, using 2 strands of Six Strand Floss wound 6 times around needle. Run thread along back of petals between Knots.

Dip doily in slightly heavy hot starch, roll in cloth to absorb excess, then pin down center right-side-up in a true square. Arrange ruffle in even ripples as it dries.
