MATERIALS—Lily SKYTONE Mercerized Crochet Cotton:—Single Bed Size—5 x 7 Blocks—70 x 98 inches—68-balls Cream, 5-balls Salmon Rose and 1-ball Lt. Green. Double Bed Size—6 x 7 Blocks—84 x 98 inches—82-balls Cream, 6-balls Salmon Rose and 2-balls Lt. Green, Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:—1-skein Cream. Crochet hook size 10.

BLOCK—(Size—14")—Center—Peony—In Salmon Rose, ch 7, sl st in 1st st. Ch 9, tr in ring, (ch 4, tr in ring) 6 times, ch 4, sl st in 5th ch of 1st ch-9. ROW 2—* Ch 2, (1 dc, 5 tr and 1 dc) all in next sp, ch 2, sc in tr. Repeat from * around. ROW 3—(Ch 6 behind petal, sc in back lp of sc between next 2 petals) 7 times, ch 3, dc between next 2 petals. ROW 4—Ch 2, (1 dc, 1 tr and 2 dtr) in dc-half of lp, * 1 dtr in sc between lps, (2 dtr, 1 tr, 1 dc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, 1 dc, 1 tr and 2 dtr) all in next lp. Repeat from * around, ending with sc. ROW 5—(Ch 9 behind petal, sc in back lp of sc between next 2 petals) 7 times, ch 4, tr between next 2 petals. ROW 6—Ch 2, (1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtr and 1 tr tr) in tr-half of same lp, * 2 tr tr in sc, ch 4, sl st in last tr tr for a p, 1 tr tr in same sc, (1 tr tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr, 1 dc, ch 2, sc, ch 2, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtr, and 1 tr tr) all in next lp. Background—Sc in Cream in center of last lp, ch 7, (1 dtr, 2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr, 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc) all in bal. of lp, * (a 2 ,dc, ch 3 and 2 dc shell) twice in next lp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc, 2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr, 2 dtr, ** ch 5. 2 dtr, 2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr, 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc) all in next (corner) lp. Repeat from * around, ending at ** in final half-lp. Ch 2, dc in top of 1st ch-7. ROW 2—Ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in dc-half of lp, (a 2-dc, ch 3 and 2-dc shell) in ch-3 center of each shell across side. In corner ch-5, make (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc). Repeat around (1 more shell on each side than in last row), ending with 2 dc in final corner, ch 3, sl st in top of 1st ch-3. ROW 10—Ch 1, 2 sc over dc, ch 8, holding back the last lp of each dtr on hook, make 6 dtr in starting st of ch-8, thread over and pull thru all 7 lps on hook at once for a Cluster, ch 4, sl st in top of Cluster for a p, ch 8, sl st at base of Cluster (a puff st completed), sc and hdc in same corner sp, * (dc in next 2 sts) worked off tog. into a Cluster, hdc in next dc, 1 sc in next ch-3 sp, make another puff-st, sc in same ch-3 sp, hdc in next dc. Repeat from * across to corner. In corner ch-5, make 1 hdc, 1 sc, a puff-st, 3 sc, a puff-st, 1 sc and 1 hdc. Repeat from * around. Complete 1st corner with 1 sc, 1 hdc, a puff-st, 1 sc, sl st in 1st sc. ROW 11—Ch 3, dc in same st, * (ch 2 behind puff st, sk sc on left side of next puff-st, dc in next 3 sts) repeated across side. At corner, ch 2, sk puff-st, (2 dc, ch 5, 2 dc) in back lp of 2d (center) sc between 2 corner puff-sts. Repeat from * around. Complete 1st corner with 2 dc, ch 2, dc in top of 1st ch-3. ROW 12—Ch 3, 2 dc over bar of dc, * dc in next 2 dc, (ch 2, dc in next 3 dc) repeated across. At corner make dc in 2 dc, (3 dc, ch 5, 3 dc) in corner ch-5. Repeat from * around. Complete 1st corner with 3 dc, ch 2, dc in top of 1st ch-3. ROW 13—Ch 3, 2 dc over bar of dc, * dc in next 5 dc, (1 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in p at tip of next puff-st, dc in next 3 dc) repeated across. Corner—Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 92 dc, dc in 3d st of corner ch-5. ROW 2—Turn without chaining, sk last dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, sk 1 dc, dc in each remaining dc across to 3d dc from end, sk 1 dc, dc in next (end) dc. ROW 3—Turn without chaining, sk last dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, sk 2 dc, dc in each dc across to 4th dc from end, sk 2 dc, dc in next (end) dc. Repeat Row 2. Fasten off. Turn right-side-up and join to center st of ch-5 at corner of CENTER, ch 3, dc in 93 dc across next side, dc in 3d st of corner ch-5. Repeat CORNER, beginning at Row 2. Repeat on other 2 sides of CENTER.

Edge—1 sc in a corner lp, ch 4, sl st in last sc for a p, (2 sc, a ch-7 p, 2 sc, a ch-4 p and 1 sc) all in same lp, * draw up a lp in same lp, draw up a lp in next sp, thread over and pull thru all 3 lps at once for a decrease, (1 sc, a ch-4 p and 1 sc) all in same sp. Repeat from * around with 3 ps in each corner as in 1st corner. Join and fasten off.

Make Blocks for desired size. Join by corner ps and by the 40 ps across each side. Start joining at one corner with ch 3, sl st in center st of a corner p on another Block, ch 3 back, sl st in last sc, 2 sc in same corner sp, ch 2, sl st in next p on other Block, ch 2, sl st back in last sc. Join each p in same way.

Leaf Spray—* In Green, ch 12, sc in 2d st, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc and 1 hdc on ch, (2 sc, a 5-ch p and 1 sc) all in end ch, (1 hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc) all on other side of ch, sl st in 1st sc, * ch 10, sk last ch, 9 sc on ch. Fasten off. Make 2 more leaves, repeating from * to *. Fasten off. Sew one on each side of center of stem. Make 4 Sprays for each Block and tack from Peony out toward corners of CENTER.

Stretch spread, right-side-down on curtain or quilting frames. Lay these a section at a time over an ironing board or padded table. Steam and press dry thru a cloth. Repeat until all of spread is blocked.

Pom Pon—Wind 2 strands Cream Rug Yarn 15 times around a ½" card. Cut at one edge. Tie a 7" strand tightly around center of tuft. Rub in hands to fluff into a pom pon. Tie one in center of each Peony.
