7 ½" HUMPTY. "DE LUXE" MERCERIZED CROCHET AND KNITTING COTTON. 1 400-yd. Ball White and 1 250-yd. Ball Color. (Worked with single thread.) Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
10" HUMPTY. "STAR" PEARL COTTON Size 5, 60-yd. Balls. 6 Balls Color and 2 Balls Cream. Steel Crochet Hook No. 6. (Worked with double thread.)
13" HUMPTY. "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED, 1 ¼-oz. Skeins. 2 Skeins each of Color and White. Bone Crochet Hook No. 5. (Worked with single yarn.)
15" HUMPTY. "STAR" COTTON YARN, 100-yd. Skeins. 3 Skeins Color and 2 Skeins White. Bone Crochet Hook No. 6. (Worked with single yarn.) "Star" Six Strand Embroidery Cotton, 1 Skein Black will be sufficient for all Humpties. 1 Skein Red for each Humpty.
Cotton or Kapok for filling.
BODY SECTION. With Color, ch 2 and work 8 s c in 2nd st from hook. Without joining rounds, work 2 s c in each s c, (16 s c), place a marker. 3rd Round1 s c in first s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from beginning all around. 4th Round* 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * all around. Work 4 more rounds in the same manner having 1 more st between increasing points in each round, there should be 64 s c at end of the 8th round. 9th RoundStart Pattern, 1 s c in first s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from beginning all around, join all pattern rounds, ch 1, and turn each round. (End each round with a d c and start each round with an s c.) 10th Round1 s c in d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from beginning all around. Work 4 more rounds the same as 10th round. 15th RoundWork in s c, increasing 6 sts in round, evenly spaced. 16th, 17th 18th RoundsWork in pattern. Repeat last 4 rounds twice. Next RoundWork in s c increasing 10 sts, (92 s c), work 3 rounds in pattern even. 31st Round1 s c in each st, then work 1 round of pattern, break thread.
HEAD. With Cream, work same as Body for first 7 rounds, then work 3 rounds of s c even. Next 17 RoundsWork in s c as follows: 11th RoundIncrease in every 7th s c, then work 3 rounds even. 15th RoundIncrease in every 8th s c, then work 3 rounds even. 19th RoundIncrease in every 9th s c, then work 3 rounds even. 23rd RoundIncrease in every 10th s c, then work 3 rounds even. 27th RoundIncrease enough to have 92 s c in round. 28th RoundWork in Pattern same as body section, break thread.
FEET. With Color, ch 9, 3 s c in second st from hook (toe), 1 s c in each of the next 6 sts, 3 s c in next st, (heel) working on opposite side of ch, 1 s c in each of the 6 sts, do not join rounds. 2nd Round2 s c in each of the 3 toe sts, 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, 2 s c in center st of heel, 1 s c in each s c on opposite side to toe. 3rd RoundIncrease 1 s c in each of the 3 center sts of toe, 1 s c in each remaining s c. 4th Round Decrease 3 sts at toe, 1 s c in each remaining s c. 5th RoundDecrease 2 sts at toe, 1 s c in each remaining s c. 6th RoundDecrease 1 st at toe, then work 4 more rounds even. 11th RoundWorking in back loop of st only, work in pattern. Work 6 more rounds of pattern even, break thread.
ARMS. With Color, ch 14, join and work 8 rounds of pattern even, break thread. 10th RoundJoin Cream, working in back loop of st only, work 1 s c in each St. 11th, 12th, 13th RoundsWorking in both loops work 1 s c in each s c, join the last round. Fold work, ch 1 and working through both sides, work 1 s c in each of the 7 s c, * ch 1, turn, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each remaining s c, repeat from * until 3 sts remain, break thread.
COLLAR. With Cream, ch 91, join, being careful not to twist ch. Work 1 s c in each st, join. 2nd Row * Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around, break thread.
To make Humpty DumptySew Head to Body, leaving opening to fill. Fill with cotton and sew remainder. Fill Arms and Legs and sew in position. Sew Collar in position. With Black work eyes and eyebrows, using outline st. Mouth with Red. Nose.Over 2 fingers wind Red about 40 times for 7 ½” Humpty, 60 times for 10" Humpty, 70 times for 13" Humpty and 80 times for 15" Humpty, tie through center, trim and sew in position.
