Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.

Brown linen tablecloth 72 x 90 inches, or size desired.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 1½ inches in diameter.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 5, (dc in ring, ch 2) 7 times. Join to 3rd ch of ch-5. 2nd rnd: 3 sc in each sp around. Join. 3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 7, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th rnd: * 9 sc in next loop, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif until 3 rnds have been completed. 4th rnd: 5 sc in next loop, sl st in center sc of any loop on First Motif, 4 sc in same loop on Second Motif, sl st in next sc, 5 sc in next loop, sl st in center sc of next loop on First Motif, 4 sc in same loop on Second Motif. Complete rnd, no more joinings.

Make another motif, joining to Second Motif the same way and leaving 2 loops free on each side of joining. Make 2 rows of motifs to reach across long side of cloth and 2 rows to reach across short side, join­ing adjacent motifs as before. Sew motifs in place. Complete other 2 sides to correspond.

Run a basting stitch all around, 13 inches from edge of cloth. Make 2 row of motifs as before to fit over the basting thread and sew in place. Mark off 7 inches from last rnd of motifs. Make 2 rows of motifs and sew in place as before. Press lightly.
