1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook (heel), sc in each of next

Make 4 dc in last ch (toe). Then working along opposite side of foundation chain, make dc in each of next

2nd rnd: Sc in each st around, increas­ing 2 sc evenly across heel and 5 sc evenly across toe—to inc, work 2 sc in 1 sc. Repeat last rnd 2 more times. Next rnd: Turn and with wrong side facing, work sl st in each sc around. Fasten off.

UPPER1st rnd: With wrong side facing, attach light color at center back, ch 3, dc in the back half of each sc of last sc-rnd. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, and working in both loops of each st, make sc in each st around, decreasing 2 sts evenly across heel and 5 sts evenly across toe—to dec, (insert hook in next st and draw loop through) twice; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each st around, decreasing 7 sts as on last rnd—to dec, (yarn over hook, draw up a loop in next st, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice; yarn over and draw through remaining 3 loops. Join. 4th rnd: Same as 2nd rnd. 5th rnd: Ch 1, working over round elastic, make sc in each st around, sl st in next st. Fasten off. Tie ends of elastic inside slipper.

POM PONS … Cut 2 circles of card­board, each 2" in diameter. Then cut a circle in diameter at center of each cardboard. Place one circle on top of the other. Cut 4 strands of contrasting color, each 3 yds. long. Draw one end of these strands through center of circle from back, pass them over outer edge and draw them through center of circle again. Continue in this manner until strands are used up and center circle is completely filled in. With sharp scissors or razor, cut yarn between the 2 cardboards at outer edge. Cut 2 strands of main color, each 12" long, and find center. Tie center of these strands tightly around yarn be­tween cardboard circles. Trim pom pon evenly and fasten securely to toe of slipper.
