GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR FILET CROCHET.
Open Mesh (O M). When worked on a chain work the first d c in 8th ch from hook * ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next st, repeat from *. Succeeding rows ch 5 to turn and d c in d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from *.
Solid Mesh (S M). Four double crochet form 1 solid mesh and 3 d c are required for each additional solid mesh. Open mesh and solid mesh are used in Filet Crochet. To increase one mesh at end of row, ch 2, thread over 3 times, insert in base of last d c made, and work off all loops 2 at a time. To increase a mesh at beginning of row, ch 8 to turn and d c in 1st d c.
To decrease a mesh at beginning of row, sl st back over 1st mesh.
USE "STAR" or "GEM" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON Sizes 30 to 50
Starting at point, ch 9, d c in 1st stitch of ch, ch 8, turn.
2nd Row. D c in d c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts of loop, ch 2, thread over 3 times, insert in same st and work off all loops 2 at a time (the last st is an increase). Ch 8, turn and continue back and forth, following diagram. Finish motif with a row of s c all around.
